Greenfield Farms

Since 1972 these two Chan brothers have run this really nice roadside produce slash nursery that I love. For years I've driven out of my way to stop in for their great selection of annuals and produce.
With little regard to this thirty seven year old family business a road divider has been erected, making entry to the farm so difficult. Most of the parallel roads similar to this one have turn offs along the way, I'm hoping this huge barrier is temporary. Some how I doubt that it is, which must be pretty distressing for these two brothers.
A the end of June the store was filled to the brim with annuals, a tell tale sign that the nursery has be affected. I truly felt like crying when I saw all the beautiful hanging baskets obviously tended with so much love and skill.
Ethics seem to have fallen to an all time low when you build a road with no conscience about the little guy! There were gray haired die hards ambling around the store. Probably the loyal ones, with extra time to drive the country miles out of their way to avert the barrier and still enjoy farm fresh!
Not long ago the brothers expanded the produce store to accommodate the growing clientele. There was a time in the eighties it was difficult to get really nice red potatoes, which I love. When I inquired why theirs were so much nicer, Will explained that his brother went right on the truck to pick the best ones. So much pride goes into running that little store.
I explained how upset I was about their business, they obliged my blog photos, taking just a few seconds to pose, then continued working diligently.
My heart is truly sad for this ethical little business. I think we all pay when these kinds of businesses get swallowed up. You hear more and more about eating in your own zone, buy local it's the green thing to do. It's healthier and more economical, but then they make it so difficult for the little guy!
I've heard it said that small business owners are the fiber of our economy!!! If this is so, then we should all take care of them!!! Where in your community can you shop to keep the small business owner out of the red?

Glitterati Art pages and a meme

I’ve amalgamated the art pages I made at Glitterati, with a finish the sentence Meme

just to make things a little more fun!

1. I've come to realize that my last kiss.....was kinda yucky! Creepy old dude!
2. I am listening to........
to my inner voice yelling eww gross why did you let him kiss you!!! Ewwwwww……
then the melodic David For
d saves the day!
All the pages we made were combined
then folded to make a booklet, I added a ruffle
3. I talk.........Too darn much baby! That's why I need days of solitude, to give my people a reprieve!

4. I love........many things …I’m not gonna lie…Lot's of things…my interests are so eclectic and diverse, that's why I am so easily distracted!

This page was about four layers plus gesso
5. My best friend.......knows best...honestly....
6. My first real kiss......
was in a shed, with my step cousin! (Not a blood relative people!)
I was maybe ten!

7. Love is.......complicated, interesting, and sometimes stinky!!
The next four pages are paper towel dipped in
thinned acrylic, split in two, then podged onto card stock.

8. Marriage is...
...
DONE for me!!!
Do I sound adamant enough?
Hope so!!!

Just like marriage these pages have many layers

9. Somewhere, someone is thinking.....Who let the dogs out….ruff ruff ruff ruff!!!
10. I'll always.....change my underwear LOTS!!!!
Too much info eh?

11. The last time I really cried was because...... I watched the movie “Poor Boys game with Danny Glover”…. It touched me!
This paisley print is my design, I'm very excited about how
nicely it printed out! I think it would make excellent scrap booking paper!
I used it in my booklet.

This page has a paper doily, tissue, paint, and gesso all modged on pink card stock, layer after layer. See the rip of pink peeking through the centre. Violette liked that rip. I have to release my need for perfection, there is no use for it in certain art processes!

12. My cell phone.....
is my mini insurance policy…for quick calls only! I only pay ten bucks a month, and tax! Not many can beat those numbers…
I seriously can't understand why people have three hundred dollar cell phone bills!! Insane!
This page is a combination of a dictionary, gesso , paint and tissue paper
13. When I wake up in the morning...... My body tells me instantly how well I can function for the day. I also play scrabble if I can get a game! Sometimes even before coffee!

Align CenterThis is Peppers favorite page of mine!
14. Before I go to bed......I watch television. It’s my lover…..Either George Strombo, or Larry King...both stimulate my mind....gotta luv em!! However there are many many nights I pass out exhausted with the television blaring and way before either of these men come on!

This is my favorite page because I've added a few strips of my blue paisley design along with acrylic paint, I love the color combination too!
15. Right now I am thinking about....
...
what colors I to make the living room. It's a huge internal fight I tell you! I love all colors.... but I am very individual so you can be assured it won't be anything usual or will it!!!.... Oh and I have two other adults I confer with....so who knows where this will end up!! Either way the fuchsia will be sadly gone!

16. Babies are.....so vulnerable, poopy, and sweet, therefore need to be raised by good people!! No body likes messy diapers.....
17. I get on Myspace....... to skulk good bands, but right all I am thinkin about is my own space, and how to update it on a budget!

18. Today I........ was collecting inspiration from designs I found on google image

19. Tomorrow I will be...trying to clean the house, now that it took me all week to recover from glitterati.

20. I really want to be many things....you guess!!!

Carry on Tuesday" You would have understood me"

I often think back to my past loves. Afraid of vulnerability and rejection I used humor to lure males in. Often rejecting them as though I had no interest. When in fact I did enjoy the attention. Now that I'm older with nothing to lose I'm more myself. I'm less dominant, less jovial, less interested in relationship.

Back then, when it really mattered, I wish I'd been more vulnerable, open, less sarcastic and witty. Back then I could clear a coffee room with my contemptible humor. All the weaker males bolted wondering who'd be my next victim. It was quite shocking when one guy revealed that he loved my humor, just didn't want to be at the brunt of it, so he ran!

I am truly sorry I was like that. I really wish I'd been more sensitive way back when! Not to make excuses, because there are none for that behavior, I will say I lived in defense mode back in the day! My circumstances warranted it! My humor is somewhat staid and I do like myself better now!

The prompt this week on carry on tuesday is the opening words of You Would Have Understood Me by Ernest Dowson. 1867–1900

You would have understood me

You would have understood me

Had I not tried so hard

Let my spirit show

Instead

I hid within

Ashamed of

My true thoughts

You would have understood me

Had I naturally embraced you

Revealed my heart

Instead

I kibitzed

Afraid

Of rejection

You would have understood me

Had I let you in

Exposed myself

Been vulnerable

Instead I lied

To you

And me

You would have understood me
had you waited

Visions of Glitter still in my Head Sunday Scribblings

Glitter in the coffee

Glitter in my hair

Glitter on my face

Glitter everywhere

We danced in a rain of glitter! Not really but we could have. I wore so much of it home.I may finally be hooked on glitter. Once the anal mom who supervised all glitter projects, to now drinking coffee sprinkled in glitter.

I shall embrace the beauty of Glitter!
So for Sunday Scribblings I leave with you visions
of the last two days filled with creative jo
y!

Generous beyond words, our dear Violette hosted an amazing two day Glitterati at the Magic cottage. Sharing an accumulated decade of knowledge, plus personal art supplies, of which we over indulged! Thank you for the gift of your love, kindness, inspiration, and knowledge. Wishing you much returned abundance!

Sorry I missed it, hope you had more fun glitter sisters!

Cascadia Soaps

I have a passion for beautiful scents, Cascadia Soaps has the most scrumptious smelling Patchouli , and sandalwood soaps ever! It makes my nose dance!! The aroma lingers on your skin for hours after bathing! Not to mention leaves your skin feeling like silk!

Trust me I have sniffed many a homemade soap, NONE compares to this brand! I purchased my first batch at Granville Island market a few weeks ago, one week later I was disappointed I hadn't bought more!

Imagine my luck when I bumped into this Cascadia soap at the Ladner festival last week. Even better that it's produced in White Rock, a short drive from my house and a place I frequent! They also carry skin care products I have yet to try!! I can assure you this will be one of my regular purchases!

There's a really generous variety of scents to choose from too! I can't wait to try a few of the more elaborate ones! This business has been around for quite some time! So why hadn't I heard of it? If you're interested in purchasing some of these soaps, I am assured they have been in business for years and ship all over. Check out their site. I have a really discriminating nose, you won't be dissapointed.....

What goes around comes around!

Celebrating St Patrick's day in Vegas, black dress with green accessories!

Vegas in March another Black dress and pink accessories!

The other day I took my daughter to H&M a trendy store for young people. Certainly not conducive to large sized moms peering on! ”Only one to a room.” the sales clerk warned. I stood outside the door across from another mom. After considerable time and heat swollen feet Pepper asked if I wanted a seat as she dragged a bench big enough for two out of the room! I promptly sat down, offered the other mom a seat. She declined as she waited outside the door to support her daughter’s choices.

In the meantime another young woman came out of a fitting room appearing very dejected in her mini skirt, awaiting her blackberry enthralled boyfriends approval. She was so slumped over and insecure…it was sad. The other mom looked over at me with a knowing wise smile as the young man barely looked up. Although I had sunglasses on, we were speaking with universal mother’s body language. Grateful we both have confident daughters secure enough to have their attentive mothers in attendance!

Pepper bought another black dress, (like mom she has many), and a fuchsia one that I picked out, plus a really cute mid length black A-line coat. I was surprised to see how many styles and prints mirrored the sixties and seventies….

Sunday Scribbling Absurd

Sunday Scribbling promp this week is Absurd!
Some may think it absurd to marry yourself! However three and half years ago these mock marriages were orchestrated by my creatively adventurous friend Violette. A celebration to honor ourselves in all we do! There's a husband in the mix and boyfriend or two...but none the less it's a marvelous concept to celebrate and promise to love ourselves through thick and thin!! This is the three of us on Saturday night in an absurd state of coincidence wearing the same colors! Or was it? Pardon the boobige!! Only dress I could find that looked half decent, so to speak! As you can see I am in the thick of it!!

It was my friend Violette's fifty fifth birthday today, her friend Susan threw her a bash on Saturday evening! As you can see being married to herself didn't stop her from scooping up this gem as her side kick! I have so many photos of him hamming it up for the camera! Doesn't matter how old you are, being goofy, playing like children do, and having an open mind keeps you young in spirit!

That's why Malcolm in the middle had to take part in our wedding ceremony! The three other ladies have been school chums since elementary school, I can only imagine the other antics these three have cooked up over the years! Malcolm came into the picture later in life, has been on many a road trip with these gals! Unfortunately he's deceased now, for quite sometime. Seemed I just got to know him, and snap, crackle, pop, he was gone!! !! Who knows maybe the honeymoon just plum wore him out!!

Yes it may have been absurd to buy wedding rings, cards, then celebrate with a nice spread of food even though it was for ourselves. But it was a serious attempt at celebrating a promise to be true to our hearts desires, and value our true spirit!

Happy Birthday Violette! Susan and Rob are dear people to put together such a nice gathering Saturday night! It was so much fun, loads of laughter, joy and great food!
A creative gift Violette received. A troll peeking out of the pocket is a signature mascot she adores! Violette affirms that you are NEVER too old to have fun!!! So go forth and be absurd!! The more people you can make laugh the happier you'll be!
