A while back painted this moderate sized canvas of a folk art dog named Bubbles. My adult kids really don't like it. So it's been sitting in the garage waiting to get painted over! They say he's scary! I think he's mischievous! I thought I'd at least put him on the blog before he gets primed to death! Poor thing!
I finally started my oak chair makeover! Funny how you can love a certain wood for years, and then it just gets to you! (I think we Overdosed on oak in the eighties!) As you can see the legs are primed with kilz, and I am in the very preliminary stages of base coating it. I have three more to do after this one, each will be unique! Then I will brave my rocking chair. Who knows, that one may just get painted white... We'll see how the others turn out first!
I had wanted plain black wood chairs, and I've been looking on Craigs list off and on for a few years now. I'm sure once all my funky chairs are painted I will find them, or others that steal my heart even more! I'll try to post the painted chair progress on paint party Fridays, and Bubbles friend too! Also disliked!
He is cute but... I can maybe see where they are coming from... something about the eyes maybe??

ReplyDeleteIsn't it funny that I've had a passion for unpainted wood all my life (before,during and after the eighties!) and now I find myself painting it WHITE of all things! You just have to go with the flow ;)xx

ReplyDeleteThat's one of the best things about art - it's so individual. We don't all have to like the same things! I think his eyes are happy and fun and love his off-kilter smile. Maybe it's the tongue (I'm not a dog person so have never liked slobbery dogs :))...........
ReplyDeleteI'd say, make sure YOU don't like it before you paint over it. Remember, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I loved Bubbles, too!!! He doesn't look scary to me at all, in fact he looks like a little jester dog, the way his ears go. Lovely clean colours! And you chair is gorgeous!! can't wait to see them all done!

Scary? No Way! I think he is misunderstood. Poor soul! He is loyal and playful...if he attacked it would be to lick you until you cry uncle but would never hurt anyone.
ReplyDeleteI can see where the kids are coming from; at first glance Bubbles is a bit scary; maybe it's all those teeth. But then he sort of grows on you. Love the way the chairs are coming along!
