Changed Paint Party Friday

A happy Couple Mixed media acrylic collaged onto a background.
Mix it Monthly Challenge
Different Now

I’m nothing the same as I used to be
Different in so many ways
I live my life easily
With many artful days

I used to worry and work
Like a person who was never done
But when I turned fifty
Seems my creative life begun

Oh sure I have many aches and pains
but I’ve relinquished the bulk  of work
I figured since I doubled my share before
 I've earned this lovely perk!

I ignore the messes in my midst
that drove me  quite insane
If I clean them right now
They'll only be there again!
I’ll cut and colour, paint and draw
Read, write and listen
Enjoying moments of creative bliss
Let my happy heart glisten

I need less now, in the way of things
I care less what others think
Even my giggle's changed
Coffees my favourite drink

At sixty I may pierce my septum
and get dreadlocks in my hair
but  that might  be too drastic
so  funky glasses I shall wear!

Tolerating less as time moves on
Hating repeated drama
Life has its ups and down
I have less "problem" stamina
Darn if I don't weep more too
at joyful movies and some sad
I feel silly when I get verklempt
these goofy emotions make me mad!
Thankfully I am wiser now
enjoying time by myself
Creating for many hours
storing worries on the shelf!

When I was 32 I found there was a pivotal change in my life as I was no longer needing to
be what everyone expected. Then at 40 I got divorced. That decade was both happy and rocky.   So when I turned fifty things had settled down and I had a new creative path and a different attitude!  When I looked around I noticed many other women were the same as they turned half century old.... they too were less tolerant, and you  know what...that's okay!

Is there any particular age where you noticed a pivotal change that took you on a new path?

Lovely post! No, I didn't notice any particular age, but the older I get the wilder I get, and I think it's fine! Hugs, Valerie

cool, funky pieces this week! I suppose my life changed dramatically with marriage and kids.

I. Find age brings acceptance. Acceptance that change can be a slow process. Patience in that there is always tomorrow . Failures are no longer failures they are learning curves. Age does bring a sense of stability to life.... :) great post !

What beautiful words and story, and your illustrations always make me smile. I'm still waiting for those changes to come, maybe I haven't reached the right age yet to be ready for them.

I love your bright art works just awesome. When I hit 50 I started creating in my Art journal best year yet.. Creatively anyway..
As we get older we get the time to think about and to do things for ourselves. The beauty of getting older I think.
Happy PPF
Sandy :)

fun illustrations and a fab poem! I think things changed for me when I turned 40. I wasn't bothered about that milestone the same way as when I turned 30 because I was settled and happy and knew exactly what I wanted and didn't want in my life - I agree I don't have time for drama in my life - I like a nice quiet life without energy vampires sucking my will to live and right now, and I'm thankful everyday, I've got that!

Love your expressive drawings and the poem. No dramatic changes in my life, at a very early age I became aware of what I wanted and not in my life.

Great post and how true. I think you definitely do get wiser when you get older, even if that is just not feeling like you have to have so many rules for living your life. I feel the same way about life, including the messy house and the arty part of life. Have a great weekend and be everything you are right now Its so liberating, isn't it?
(Oh yes, and more fantastic art this week.)

Great post with funky art as always here! So good to feel good and want less, need less and just be!
Enjoying the simple pleasures make me smile, just happy to flow through the days as they come with no big changes.

Love the art, the words and I chuckled because I recognized some ideas similar to those I've expressed in my own blog post today.

Let's keep growing, forgiving and forgin' on ~ 'cause THAT's Life!

have a creative day!

brilliant, colorful art Giggles-LOVE that happy couple piece especially! The good thing about getting older is that I do think we tend to loosen up much more and do more of what we want and for ourselves-without guilt:):)

Awesome work as always. I enjoyed reading what you have to say about changes. The older I get, the crazier I get. Tee hee. I wear my Converse with holes in them to the store and really don't give a hoot about what people think. I braid my hair and go to the casino and sit there and think I look cute. hahaha. Sometimes I use huge purses just for the fun of it, but they seem to weigh me down. I'm a jean person and love thin sweatshirts with hoods and that's me. Oh, I paint my fingernails black now.:() Have a wonderful day.:()

Wonderful post, incredible art but I am wondering why it took me to 70 to do what you did at 32...slow learner I guess but I am glad I finally learned to be my own person.

Fabulous illustrations and poem! I love your take on life! I don't think any age for me as particularly made me change my ways; but I do think as I've grown older I've been more adventurous about trying the things I never dared to do when I was younger.xxx

Wonderful! I had a big change of direction in my mid to late 30's but it really started at around 32, however, it took me a few years to recognise it. I've always been a bit slow on the uptake! Great, thought provoking post. Thanks so much for linking to Art It Friday - Show Your Face and for the shout out too. Kx

Absolutely life as changed as I have aged. Fifties brought a huge creative surge and also time and with whom I spend it with has become more important. I have less patience for BS and other people's drama, and at the same time I don't care what people think about me, or what I look like. Life is way too short. Great post, as always, my friend.

great post as always and you always make me pause and think which is never a bad thing... pivotal age... just shy of 29 and becoming a mum... and then bloody cancer at 46... those two things defined me more than anything... but i am a better person for both... as to changes... I think you should go dreads and funky glasses...xx

Not only love your artwork ... loving your whole post! I'm a slow learner lol ... almost 46 and getting braver, not as tolerant as I used to be. ( not always a bad thing ) Your posts brightened my day...Thank youxxxx

Oh my! I am so glad to be reading your post again! Its great fun visiting you, as always! These art works are just so precious like your words! Have fun, keep changing and evolving because we are all works in progress. And, like you, I feel I realized in the fourth decade of my life.
Thank you for your visit, Giggles. :-)

I love the face on the "precious" piece!

Right around the time I turned 40 I decided I was creative and artistic (I'd always been told that my sister was the creative one). It was a real turning point for me...

I read this and we have so much in common! Refreshing to read your thoughts and enjoy your art!

love the pictures and the poem

the age where I changed was in my 50's, somewhere a light bulb went off and said you just don't need to take any more crap from anyone,
I do what I want, and when I want, life to short to be held back by any drama in your life

Lisabella Russo said...

Beautiful thoughtful post! The happy couple is sweet. I think I've become more mellow than I used to be...

pauline said...

oh my friend, i LOVE these illustrations! Especially the PRECIOUS one. You really found a style of your own with these. And what a gift you have for poetry. Your words made me smile, because i am SO there, going through those same changes of having less patience for certain things, and extra energy for others (like art!). Wonderful post. Thank you always for your words of wisdom. xx

Love the drawings. I have had many pivotal ages. The first one happened when my father died and I had to support my family. Then when I got pregnant and life never stops changing.Right now I am waiting for a new change.Just hope it can be a good one,

I so love your new style of illustrations! The words fit the image perfectly, and they look wild and precious to me. Sure, my outlook on life changes when I get older, I don't care much about what other people think of me, I don't try to please everyone anymore, and I know much better what I want and what I don't want. I must say I like it this way ;-)

What an amazing post, the superb poem, the illustrations and the words. I could be here all day (have already had a little side foray into the blogs on your fascinating bloglist).
Your happy couple look so together, they are strong in the world.
Mrs. Precious is fabulous, I hope she is happy with how she looks, she is an individual beauty, who wouldn't like two beautiful coloured eyes like hers.
Mr. Carry-the-load looks as if he is quite competent to carry in the shopping and pack it away nicely.
And Mrs. Fall-over looks so friendly and glamorous (love her lilac nails and pretty frock) (and blue and lilac hair, haha!) that I don't think she'll have any trouble finding helpers.
Mr. Five looks quite young, I hope he is smiling the next minute. Love him in blues.
These illustrations and the painted words on them are quite astounding, like nothing else in Blogland. There is so much depth to them.
Your final question? I've had many pivotal changes and they've all turned out well. My latest was when I started a blog and started a whole new artistic life along with my precious blogging friends.

first of all...i love your drawings this week :) For me, it wasn't a certain age. Every year gets better. I'm more calm and know what I want and what I don't want from life. it's all good!!
