The Groper

  The Groper

It's never who you think
they watch you from afar
 when least expected
hone in for the spar

 Fantasize their conquest
unbeknownst to you
Silently observing
never know what they'll do
Original journal page Lady 1
They  could start to kibitz,
 fight,  flirt or tease
Sometimes cause a fury
or seduce you at  ease
Original Lady 2
They may get you in a corner,
dance too close on the floor
 seclude you from others
behind a closed  locked door
Original Lady 3
It's usually a big surprise
you never thought they would
 Shock with disgust amalgamates
composure  misunderstood

Who could you tell so long ago?
who will take your words to heart?
You may be judged, though his fault
some may resign that you're the tart
Original Lady 4
 Vulnerable and violated
 with absolutely  no choice
for years you hold the information
 sequestering your voice

 Name  who  invades your space
tell everyone you can
if it informs or dissuades
You may save others from that clan!

This face was added to a digital watercolour program love the results of all four ladies!

I have so much more to say about this subject
but for the moment I can't! Recently I made a list
of all those who made unwanted, unwarranted
moves over the years and the list was
shocking. Especially how young it started!
I'm just now digesting it all!
Have you made your own list?
If it never happened to you I am thrilled to hear
that too!

I like all four of your lovely ladies, too, Sherrie. Before my future dh and I became an item, no one noticed me. I have had nothing close to groping going on in my life - ever. As a teen and young woman, I longed for someone to think I was pretty enough to flirt with. I was like a bit of the wallpaper. So I am having a really hard time with this groping issue. Not that I don't believe it happens. It's just a foreign idea to me. And I have heard of teens, especially, who got men in trouble by falsely accusing them just to get even for something. I don't believe everything I read or hear. Often context makes the difference. Having said that, I think your poem is worthy of note.

Oh, well said! And such delightful ladies!

Well done with the poem! I've recently been in conversation with a friend who was experiencing "stomach pain" after some dietary changes. As he explored the issue, he remembered being doubled up in pain as a boy, knowing their stepfather was molesting his sister. His helplessness to protect her gave him physical pain! And set him on a path of being a protector, not a groper!
I, fortunately, only had mild issues, with a girlfriend's younger brothers. I never stayed over at HER house again!! And was appalled when I realized how widespread groping and beyond is! As you say, the more women and girls speaking up, the better!
A friend recently offered a healing art project for children who are the victims of human trafficking. The girls were more responsive than the boys, some of whom just left. While others stayed longer than the time allotted. Doodles, color play, many drew animal allies!

Having often been the only woman at all-male Defense events and shows I have had my fair share of 'accidental' gropings and very inappropriate comments. I learned to give as good as I got (verbally) and publicly and loudly shame the perpetrators but I understand that not all women can or would want to do that.

Lovely ladies, Giggles. You always have extremely interesting discussions. I had some groping incidents as a child. One was a stranger and I told my big sister who rushed up the street to look for him...he was long gone. The other was a close relative who cornered me...but I had a trick up my sleeve...I picked up my teeny Jack russell dog and the dog went berserk baring his teeth at the guy. I never got groped by that guy again!! Dog power.

Great faces! Love the teeth. :) Haven't made a list but I remember. I think all females get that at one point unfortunately. And often than not it starts close to home with relatives.

Wonderful faces and figures, they all have so much character, and great colour combinations too. I'm happy to say that I never had any such experiences.

Again a powerful post through text and art. My list would be long and shocking as well. It took decades to get to the place I am now, at peace, so my list will not come to light. Healing and loving oneself sometimes take more time than we would like.

Powerful post! I have had many incidents happen to me before I was an adult, and married. The first when I was 5 or 6, an older distant cousin, the grandfather of a best friend as a teen, and employer as an older teen, a photographer on a modeling shoot, the various other men and boys who thought there was nothing wrong with grabbing an innocent girl. Its all in fun, right? That used to be the mindset, and I was pressured to just accept unwanted advances like a compliment. Thank God the climate has changed! No girl or woman should be taken advantage of as I was.

First the faces so well defined, bold lines, mimic your bold words!!!! As though they too are showing their disgust, their voices finally thrown far and wide, no longer hiding, brave souls shouting their truth, hopefully finally knowing they aren't alone nor were they at fault! I praise them/you for making your list, for speaking out, for telling now perhaps what was too confusing, too frightening to tell then! It's written on the ladies faces ... I feel their/Your pain!im so very sorry this happened to you! I hope that finally addressing it will help those childparts heal! Bravo you fine artist, wonderful Woman friend you!

A timely post, by all means, as the issue of groping is in the news. Our Universities and our military are having extreme problems with inappropriate sexual advances and assaults. It is a behavior that apparently some men feel is their right and disrespects every woman and her place in our modern society. That is assuming we have grown in our views and our commitment to equality. Anyone who participates in such behavior should be exposed and every women should speak honestly of those incidence of groping they have experienced. I know there are some who would make accusations without truth perhaps for the attention, but for the most part it is so difficult to come forward, that any woman who has the courage should be given a sympathetic ear and all the support she deserves. Your art and your thoughts are provocative in a good way. Well done, Giggles :)

Great faces and powerful words, Giggles. Yes, I received a decidedly inappropriate hug in church once, masquerading as a 'sharing of the peace'. I immediately told my husband - something I think a lot of us are too scared/ashamed to do for some reason - and the next time this person came in for a hug, I stuck my hand out and firmly told him no. He knew what he had done and never attempted to hug me again.

Love the new style of art. Can't decide if I like the originals or the watercolor filter better!

Well done ladies' faces. I understand what you are saying. Growing up in New Delhi, India, sexual harassment of young women (groping, teasing) was
an everyday affair and the shame and humiliation was always upon the victim. It is still the same in that part of India.

Fantastic!!! This poem needs to be published or put up at Domestic Violence Centers. Great girls too! They all look beautiful in their different colors. It was great/sad/emotional to read your words. You are really brave to sit and make a list. Most women can't or don't want to. I am a former Crisis and Shelter Counselor for our local Domestic Violence Center and also got to do public outreach at one of our local high schools and also at public events. That is why I believe your words are so important. Big hugs Giggles (and yes I have a list too, amazing when we look back, right?)

What wonderful ladies and such powerful words. I'm sorry incidents of that kind are so common. I hope it improves.

An excellent poem with fabulous art as always. I think almost every woman has a list, I know I do. At this age, I'd never put up with any of the crap I did when I was younger. Times are changing though and I have hope that things may be different for a new generation of women. Hope so!

Your ladies are all fascinating, I especially like the bendy one with the spotted background, I hope she is just doing her exercises and not trying to get away from someone. The ladies with the big teeth are a bit frightening to me, maybe I had a bad experience with a big-toothed lady? It would be interesting to hear what younger people think of this problem.
