Paint Party Friday
My mother loved blue, I didn't! Growing up Mom
had floral blue couches, a floral blue bedspread,
turquoise shag rugs. I used to wish the turquoise
kitchen which was often refreshed to mask their
cigarette smoke would be painted a new colour!
As a girl I loved orange and once painted

Recently I repainted a stool to match our bathroom.
Who knew one could change so completely
over the years!!

Blue, blue, the essence of you
The clothes, the rooms, in every hue
A color that was never me
It caused us both to disagree
Orange, green, purple, red
Other colors, I loved instead
Blue, blue, the essence of you
Acted out, in every hue
Melancholy permeated
All the rooms decorated
Slit wrists, closed fist
Vital bonds sadly missed
Blue, blue, was all about you
Not a thing, a child could do
Your rules, your way
Opposing views and I’d pay
Suppressed by you, I’d submit
Differences you’d not permit
Blue, blue, the essence of you
Your house, your view
Wasn’t long and I was gone
Arguments, continued on
Opposing tastes, opposing plights
Now free to explore my rights
Blue, blue, who knew?
My child would love every hue
Been a while since you passed
The inherent love for blue is cast
As my daughter adorns her space
What ever she loves, I’ll embrace
Never under estimate the ability to change!!!
Have you ever made a change that you
never thought possible?

I happen to love blue. My mother tells that before I could even speak I grabbed all blue clothing when shopping with her.I still remember a pale blue dress with lots of ruffles, I was two years old. I love your new bathroom and that stool looks great.
ReplyDeleteLovely alterations, the furniture looks really good. Happy PPF, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteFab stool
ReplyDeleteI love your poem and your wonderful altered furniture! Yes one can change so completely
ReplyDeleteover the years and this is such a fantastic thing, isn't it? And we shouldn't limit us to just one or two colors! LIVE SHOULD BE COLORFUL!!!!! And our souls also should be colorful too! Your soul is it for sure! Wonderful art and post! Wishing you a very happy weekend dear Sherrie!

I adore orange....I live green...I am not a blue person but guess what? I have blue as a main colour in my house...I love your little stool..have a great weekend...xxx
ReplyDeleteI like both versions of your chair. I never had arguments with my mother about colors but about a lot of other things. She didn't accept other opinions than her own. It's great that you were able to express your feelings with a poem.
ReplyDeleteThe change I made that amazes me the most is that for a few years now I like abstract art. For most of my life I disliked it so much that I never thought that one day I would change my mind.
Your bathroom decoration and stool look original and beautiful. It's most important that yourself love what ever they are.
ReplyDeleteHappy PPF and Wekend xx
Great post. Beautiful colors you've used on the stool and also in the towels, box, etc. Because of my white/blond hair as a child I was always dressed in royal blue and my dark haired sister in red. Today whenever I wear royal blue I get so many compliments that I know my mother somehow knew it was "my color". In art I love to use seafoam green and other shades of green. I go through phases where everything is orange. Looks like I change favorites every few months.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed your post and LOVE the header. However that bunny seems somewhat melancholy (perhaps anticipating all of the work he has ahead of him). Happy PPF
ReplyDeleteLove before and after of the stool. Great poem, I wonder if you didn't like blue because she did? Just to make your own statement as young people like to do.
ReplyDeleteI guess I am lucky, I loved the same colors as my mother, we were a match made in heaven. I love all the colors in your decor, the stools are divine!
ReplyDeleteBlue has never been my color. I am an orange, red, earth colors kind of gal. I love you poem. It is so powerful and much truth. I do love your shelf and the stool is fabulous. Many things I have changed in my life but as I am sitting here can't think of one. LOL Too early in the morning. Hugs and have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteI understand completely. My favorite colors have changed over the years, and now I've come back to pink..which was the color of my bedroom when I was a kid. It was a complete surprise when I started gravitating to pinks, but now I've embraced it. My husband's favorite color is green. I think green, especially forest green, is sooo depressing to look at, but I let him do him. At least it goes well with pink. lol
ReplyDeleteI do love blue although if you paint a room blue it is rather cold. The stool looks so great. I might try this sometime to give a new look without breaking the bank.
ReplyDeleteHappy PPF xx
Oh look- the Easter bunnies have arrived:):) Love them. Such a well written and descriptive poem. I love how painted items can be revamped and changed just by painting over them and refreshing a space. Red was always my fave color and that hasn't changed. Only thing that did change is that I used to really dislike green! Until I started to connect the green with nature. I quite like green now:) Happy PPF!
ReplyDeleteThat stool looks so pretty! And I'm with you. I'm not so much a blue person but if you make it turquoise, I'm all in! I love your poem too, such an expression of feeling. :)
ReplyDeleteHow fun to see the decoration in your bathroom! That stool is looking great, both before and after. In high school I had to wear a dark blue uniform and for years after I didn't want to have a single dark blue item of clothing in my wardrobe. Now I can appreciate it again :-)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful work, and great poem about your "fight" with blue. My parents had gold and rust and forest green when we were growing up, and I hated earth tones, especially gold. Now I love them! But my fave has always been blue and always will be. :-)
ReplyDeleteLuv the verses. Luv the art. Happy PPF
ReplyDeleteMuch🌼love
It's funny how much you change as you get older. Not just in terms of colours but also the foods you like. Love the blue painted stool :) Happy PPF from Number 31 :D
ReplyDeleteIsn't it funny how time changes things, and your own taste and favorites. I feel the same way! Happy PPF!
ReplyDeleteWonderful tribute poetically to your Mom and love the painted stool!
ReplyDeleteHappy Saturday to you,

Hmmm... you made me think. I did not completely change my color choice but completely changed my perception of my father late in his life. As a daughter, I thought him to be selfish and narrow-minded, always too busy for his kids. As a teen age rebellious girl, I argued with him, literally daily. In my young adult years, I understood that he was so busy because his young adult life was interrupted because he and his whole family were interned. He was making up for lost time by going to college, working and supporting a family. Late in his life, he took wonderful care of my mother when she had Alzheimers. He learned to cook, entertained their childhood friends and created a caring and loving environment for her. I feel grateful that I was able to see this change. My heart changed too. Thank you for posing this question!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, isn't it interesting how things like disagreements over our favorite colors can have such lasting impressions! Luckily your mom's dislike of green (crazy!) did nothing to to dampen your enthusiasm for color!
ReplyDeleteI don´t think I have any favorite colors. Mostly I see the whole picture and situation and see if it fits. But one thing I hate. When I moved into my present appartment the tapestry was the kind of colors from frying to hard in the kitchen. It was like stinky yellow stuff on the walls that made me feel sick. It was modern at that time and I had to redecorate the walls as I got sick of it. Now I have skies and flowers on my walls. Much better. Lately I got fond of those glowing blue tones :) Love your stool :)
ReplyDeleteI used to want everything in my life to be purple and its still my favourite but over the years I'm now loving orange and yellow, two colours I resisted when I was young. My mum loved green and still does. I used to find green boring but nowadays I adore it too! Love that revamped box of yours! Have a great weekend! x
