A million Tears

A few years ago I wrote this poem in lyric form, for my niece.I think it speaks for itself. One day we hope to put it to music. It’s actually titled with her name in the song. Because she is at such a vulnerable age and it could upset her to be identified, I have left her name off the title.
A Million Tears

Daddy don’t hate mommy
I can’t stand it anymore
When you think I’m sleeping
I’m standing by the door
You say you love my mommy
Because she gave you me
When she calls you yell at her
I cry tears you never see

Mommy don’t hate daddy
I can’t stand it anymore
When you think I’m sleeping
I’m standing by the door
I don’t see my daddy much
I’m sad when we’re apart
You tell all your friends he’s bad
But I still love him, with all my heart

Stop the fighting on the phone
I can’t stand it anymore
When you think I’m sleeping
I’m standing by the door
Sad thoughts fill my head at night
My heart hurts from all it hears
So I cry alone in bed
At least a million tears

I pray daddy won’t hate my mommy
I can’t stand it anymore
Are you standing with me god
When I’m standing by the door?
I love my mommy very much
Please take away her pain
Send them both a message
That I love them just the same

Thank you god, you answered
You heard my tears at night
Mom and dad have promised me
They’ll no longer fight
My daddy lives at one house now
My mommy at another
And now we live peacefully
Apart and with each other

My heart feels lighter now
I don’t listen anymore
Quietly tucked in my bed
I don’t stand by the door
I dream of how it used to be
Of all the fun times that we had
When we lived to together
When mommy loved my dad
