Creative Blip, Paint Party Friday

Sinister Bunny click to enlarge!
Some people create with intention, I create with wild abandon. I've seen a young university student create art pieces to provoke.  Being self taught I tend to create willy nilly. From a young age I have always needed to release my creative energy.
Click to enlarge for a better perspective!

Every quiet moment  alone seemed to conjure up some kind of creative project whether it was crocheting, designing a dress I couldn't find in the stores, or designing my own style diaper bag with a fold out blanket to change baby on.  Everything in my midst needed a coat of paint to match things, poems needed to be written during hard times, and my life always needed colour!!  Sometimes a pretty tchotcheke  inspired a bathroom or bedroom makeover!!  At that time I had no idea I was on a creative mission. I was just decorating and doing,  out of creative necessity!!

As a teen a long red corduroy button up dress was worn as a coat, while I  crocheted a red and white  star hat to match. I baked and cleaned a lot,  always trying to use up that creative energy. So this week when my creative mojo took a rest, I was not a happy camper... I started five new paintings in my art journal and not one has turned out. It's either half done, too contrived or overly work to an ugly stage.

Now that I am trying to post on instagram with regularity I feel pressure to create at a regular pace. I am posting old work peppered with new pieces. However this week I had nothing acceptable to share to Paint Party Friday.  So I resorted to my loft PC to squiggle  some digital lines in hopes of producing something digital. Thankfully that's a method that works for me and thankfully  these few pieces came to light!

One showed up after a conversation with Cupcake as she has worked 13 days in a row many days eleven hours as she  cautiously searches  for new reliable employees. The Sinister bunny came secondary! Cupcake hates with a passion the face...those smiles that appear are like the ugly clowns we both despise! Seriously these pieces show up without much thought, from squiggly lines. I feel my words are my only true contribution. They are what they are, whether they are liked or not is irrelevant I guess. I have yet to fully understand the creative process...I just know it needs to rear it's ugly head at times or you feel you might go crazy...it's like that itch you can't scratch...it just has to be!!

Over the years friends and family have said I should design cards...more for the inner writing than the outer artwork. However I never seem to stay focused long enough on one
subject matter. I do however admire those  like Tascha  who manages to stay on track with   adorable characters.
How about you, do you have creative chaos in your life?
Do you have your fingers in many creative pies, or do
you have a rigid plan you stick to? I resort to digital art when
at a loss of where to go, what do you resort to?

I love the willy nilly! Right now it seems I have so many things going in the way of art its almost insanely distracting. I'm finding that I want to try this and that and maybe that too! And before I know it I am trying to split my time between so many interests. I do find that what I am doing in the arena, seems to be really helpful when I cross over into a different realm. For now it works, but I will have to make some choices soon and pull back from all the creative chaos :)

I have been known to design a bathroom around a bar of soap, and have always said my house has been my first canvas. I get very irritated when I can't create. Not that I notice, but my sweet husband does!!!

Wonderful work! It is such fun just to create, let go, do your own things, and your 'thing' is wonderful today! Hugs, Valerie

Firstly Thank you for the new word-Tchotcheke! Never heard that before but i love it! Or sounds like maybe your creative mojo was exhausted-that's a lot of ways to be creative that you described! i paint and i write (3 unfinished novels and counting! ) but i unfortunately missed out on the sewing /knitting/crochet talent that my mum has. i think you should be am agony aunt for a newspaper or magazine as you always have an interesting and thought provoking take on life situations..Wishing cupcake good luck in finding a new job. x

I love the description of creativity being like an itch you must scratch! It is...it us compelling. I'm sorry your mojo has temporarily wavered but it will be back! I usually have several things going on at the same time, fllitting around as the mood takes me. I'm not methodical although I usually have an idea before I start a piece the idea often changes with the process of creation. To be creative is to be adaptable.

I love creative chaos... The messier the better and I think once we embrace it everything falls into place. The Internet is a bit too finished product sometimes, and so it is good to show unfinished work sometimes too just to beat those perfectionist gremlins... Love your work this week, and I am happy to see you more regularly on Instagram... Not so happy about cupcakes hours though... Not good there

It is so good to catch up with you again. I believe your cards would be beautiful and quite popular if you decide to make them. Creativity is a beautiful energy which makes us feel alive. Big hugs to you!

I have lots of old art on stand by. :) I know the pressure of creating regularly. Unfortunately I don't have the regular art drive that masters have but it's all good either way.

Sherrie, you are so creative in so many areas. Your posts are always both fun and thought-provoking. How wonderful to be eclectically (sp?) talented.

Great results! I wouldn't know where to start creating digital images. Happy PPF!

Hi Sherrie. I have Instagram but don't know how to use it yet. Not sure if I will even use it. Love your sketches this week. Lots of fun and many smiles.:)

It doesn't look to me like your creativity has taken a hiatus. Your colorful characters are SO fun! I'm not on instagram, nor do I know how to make digital art like this but that's OK-I already have enough creativity thoughts constantly spinning in my head. However, when I do feel stuck and it gets overwhelming I step back and just paint backgrounds!

your creativity shows in your artwork! I tend to be a planner.

I'm willy nilly all over the place with lots of totally different projects going at once . The main consistent thing being that I MUST create!!!! Love your bright art and I'm still playing with the idea of doing Instagram. Do I need another addiction? :)

That's the thing about creativity, the feeling is either there or it isn't sometimes. Your art flows and is full of your fun being, so great! I have ideas and then they change and flow differently, or play around with little pieces, journaling and generally letting go not knowing too well where my journey is going. Fragments of creative ideas, playing in the chaos of my mind, channeling and grounding, that's what the process feels like at times.

I enlarged the first photo, as instructed. Aaaaaargh! I saw why you called him "Sinister Bunny". His wide smile seemed to fill the whole of my wide screen. Great painting and characterisation!
It seems like a few people have lost their Mojo recently and mine is browsing the travel pages - maybe there is a Mojo get together somewhere and they'll all be back soon?
You have such a distinct style that is all yours and that is precious. It's clever to be able to produce these amazing colourful works from your Loft PC and squiggly lines.

Sherrie - I feel that if we ever met in person we would just start chatting like we'd been BFF's for years. I am so like you in many ways. I have tried many creative venues. Now I'm kind of centered on painting (and sketching - go together I think). But my bird just gave me a break to be fresher when I go back to paint. Love your squiggles - they made me smile. Thanks for your lovely comments on my work - you go girl too!!!

I tend to go up and down. I don't create for a while and then it all explodes out of me like a volcano. Then I burn out and have to rest for a few weeks. I think you're putting too much pressure on yourself to create. Just relax! Happy PPF

I love these! Both of them! I think they're funny and endearing. Digital art: one more creative pie I would like to get my fingers into. I so know what you mean, I like too many things and have too many ideas. Which is a luxury at times, but sometimes also frustrating, because I always seem to lack the time. I often make plans but seldom stick to them, because I tend to go with ideas and inspirations of the moment. Oh well, that's just the way I work I guess ... ;-)

Our creative "mojo" can be such a fickle friend at times. At least you have multiple creative avenues to express it. We've all got the good, bad and the ugly. Bravo on tackling the digital art!

With 6 boys under age 12 in our home, we have chaos. Period. The backyard contains all teir creative chaos. A little table in the corner of the livingroom and 3 random baskets scattered throughout the house contain mine. I have to grab minutes to create when I can, so there is no consistent process to speak of. However, I tend toward creating with purpose rather than painting freely with abandon. That said, some of my pieces that I have been most pleased with "just happened" when I had time to play with abandon. I look foward to time in the future when I can do more of that... but in the meantime I am thankful for the sanity I do gain through my brush presently!

Oh, Lord, do I ever go about willy-nilly. Writing, drawing, painting, sewing, knitting. Using ink, watercolor, colored pencil, always trying something new I can't quite control. I fear I'll be a Joy of all trades and master of none. Nonetheless, I enjoy creating. Glad to read others are in the same boat. It's a glorious ride, no? You could always sign up with Redbubble or some other webshop that will print cards on demands. You get a percentage of the sale but don't have to deal with the printing. Thanks for all the giggles you share!

great writing you always have interesting things to say. It seems I cant do two things at once, creatively. It creates chaos in my brain, I have to do 1 things at a time. I always admire people who can multitask many things at once.

Hello my friend! It's been awhile since I visited your lovely blog. I love so many kinds of art: digital, collage, journaling and etc.Hope you are well.Have a magical sunday!

These are so wonderful!!! They have whimsy, but also depth to them. And the shapes are really great!

I am very committed to create from my intuition and the heart without knowing where it is taking me. Lately

I've been doing a few commissions, which is much more intentional. But with my abstract style, I still have a lot of freedom to paint spontaneously.

And with the way I work, I always have a few things going at once. I love that!!

xoxo Silke

I usually have several things going at once. Paintings, drawings, and lists of things I want to try!

However, I try to stay away from computers and such in my spare time! I spend way too much time at the computer all day for work!

Wonderful post - as always! If I am ever at a loss to paint something, I rest back on what I enjoy most to paint, and what I think is an easy subject. Most times, I am pushing to excel and improve, but sometimes - I just want to paint for the joy of painting :)

I am all over the place, from designing crochet patterns; to using watercolor, pastels, and prismacolor pencils for my artwork; writing books and articles. . . after I stopped sewing and making cloth dolls. :) Me too. I love this art work and can see a story in the little bunny. Blessings, Janet PPF
