A Very Happy Birthday Paint Party Friday

Has this ever happened to you....Your birthday sneaks up on you so fast you have to check  the  calender to see what  day it falls on?  Well that happened to me on the weekend...   WHAT....another year older already...wow.. Today is my Birthday and although I detest getting older the alternative is not an option!!

This morning these were found on my a door step with a gorgeous card!

I had no expectations for my Birthday and asked not to get presents. I have what I need. Each year we ask each other what kind of cake we would like for our birthday. It can range from a homemade regular or ice cream cake to something purchased depending on what we have a hankering for!  I usually request strawberry shortcake, my favourite!  Ages ago I requested one cinnamon bun...because it was easy and  I love them, plus I didn't want a whole cake hanging around!
Cupcake has been tie dying like crazy lately and I love the sweaters and shirts she's created!
Last night Cupcake came through the door at 10 pm with this box of cinnamon buns!! I ate one and the other is going in the deep freeze!! Sorry if these make you hungry, wish I could share one with all of you!

I haven't been the best of friends the last few years because I just can't do what I used to with my bad hip. I have tried to wean off celebrations..meeting on occasion when I have a good day with a friend or two. It's always a lovely visit. However I have bowed out of a several celebrations because it just takes too much energy for me.

Cupcake just painted these beige sandals with acrylic and flexible varnish. They were an end of the season find two years ago!

Revamped Happy Couple

I've decided to share Cupcakes many tie dye pieces this week and a revamped bird art rather than the many digital pieces I created because they feel a bit too dark on a day of celebration and gratitude!!

Cupcake is tapping into her creative side full force lately!!
Wednesday felt like my actual birthday when Beardo Changed my bed, and washed all my blankets! He was painting and doing odd jobs around the house. Yet all day was filled with surprises. He  brought home a large coffee and doughnuts. Then he brought me gorgeous boquet of my favorite flowers pink peonies.
Because Cupcake had to work  on her normal day off  he brought home Sushi for us to enjoy at  dinner!!  Later in the evening he brought me home a special  chai tea! Sincerely  I have the most amazing  son in law and daughter a woman could dream of! Sometimes I have to pinch myself because I feel like I am dreaming!
One of the t-shirts Cupcake did for Beardo she even did a dress shirt which everyone is admiring!

Last week  Cupcake bought and  put together a much needed  new computer chair for me!   It's so wonderfully comfortable and my hip LOVES it!  Today she   served me, gave me a pedicure and the kids barbequed  me a wonderful dinner!!
All these many  loving gestures truly make me feel loved! Being treated with love and respect is the most precious gift you can receive when you don't have a whole lot of yourself to give back!
I am truly blessed by the love of friends and family! I feel abundantly grateful and undeserving! A million thank yous Cupcake and Beardo you make everyday special for me!!
To everyone else who wished me a Happy Birthday and those who sent cards...thank you from the bottom of my heart...I am truly a lucky woman!

Be honest, what do you prefer many small gestures of love, or one large grandiose gesture to feel loved?

Happy Birthday, I hope you'll have a good one. Your daughters dying is really beautiful, and I simply LOVE her sandals. What a good idea to paint them.
To be honest, I prefer all those small things. One big show off isn't my thing.

It sounds like you had the perfect birthday with all the wonderful things that cupcake and beardo did for you and I agree - I think the small things are much more thoughtful than grand expensive gestures (although if S were to surprise me with a world cruise I wouldn't say nah just make me a coffee, instead!!) As for cupcake - how incredibly creative is she!! I had no idea you could even paint shoes with acrylic paint! They look fab and her tie dies clothing - I love them! Does she have an etsy shop or a way of selling her creations or is she just doing it for herself? - I think she'd be on to something if she were to set up a boho upcycling tie die emporium!!

It sounds like a wonderful birthday. You are truly blessed with such a wonderful daughter and son-in-law. I love getting calls and cards on my birthday but I have to admit I always looked forward to my husband's surprises. One year he sent flowers every hour to my office and the whole school could not wait to see what was going to arrive next. It's a great memory.

Does Cupcake have an Etsy shop. I think her sweaters and shirts are awesome.

Happy happy birthday. I think you need to celebrate just because you are very lucky with everything you have. Cupcake's tie dyes are gorgeous! Love her color choices. And your cinnamon- buns look delicious-what a nice way to have a little birthday fun later on when the day has come and gone. Enjoy your weekend and do something special for yourself.

Yesterday was also my d.i.l's birthday. Your celebration sounds great! The petunias and the peonies are the sort of thing I'd like myself. At this stage I don't want things that don't get used up. Plants are fine but stuff that just lies around is not fine. I cannot say enough about the talented daughter you have. Her tie dyed items would sell in any boutique. How very beautiful! The colors are really gorgeous but also the designs. And what a jewel your dear son in law is! You are a blessed woman to have such loving kids.

Happy B'day dear Sherrie, it sounds like you have some amazing people around you! It must be such a joy to have such a great relationship with your daughter and son-in-law. I so love your saying "although I detest getting older the alternative is not an option" :-) Haha, I agree wholeheartedly! Those tie-dyes are amazing, your daughter sure takes after you with her love for colour! I love that painting that is behind her on the wall in the picture with the pink tie-dye. Did you do that? It's so happy and bold, love it!

Hi Sherrie. About my post, I honestly am no sad about not being able to paint right now. I am enjoying doodling as I have been doing for the past few months. I know that I will paint with brushes when the feeling is there but I like using the Ipad for doodles. No mess, no fuss. :)) As for books, I have had lots of books printed up with my work. I think I have about 45 to 50 books of my art, my food, projects in the backyard, gardening and on. This year I haven't printed my blog post but I will. Oh yeah, I have all my blog posts and pictures printed in books too. So, I'm cool. tee hee.

Happy Birthday to you! You do so deserve it! How wonderful the couple of days of devotion from your daughter and son-in-law! I know they are good to you all the time, but it sounds like they really came full force for your special week. I am sorry to hear about your hip. It is funny/strange to me that I always think I am the only one having aging/health issues! I guess most people don't talk about it and just carry on. I always appreciate your very perceptive comments of the week and of course, your most delightful and colorful art!

My sister used to tie dye. I still have the shorts, shirts and socks she made. The color is still bright and pretty. I'm a 70's girl--I'll always love tie dye. :D I also adore your drawing. Something about it hit my funny bone. LOL

What a wonderful post full of gratitude and happiness. Happy Birthday Year! Hope it's a good one.
Cupcakes tie-dyes are so much better than other tie-dyes I've seen, they have distinct designs, the two cardigans are amazing.
Yes, the thoughtful small gifts are often the best, sometimes it is a bit scary to get a BIG PRESENT, a bit of a responsibility.
I love your painting at the top, dreaming but watching with a smile, the ball, the writing and your skilful use of colour.
