When it's Complicated! Paint Party Friday

Decorated envelope instead of wrapping paper, acrylic and washi tape!
Have you ever noticed how sometimes life is complicated?
Often too complicated to explain yourself. Anytime
one has a crisis, does a home renovation,  has an illness,
a divorce, are grieving, or just plain worn out, life can get
complicated!
Digital Colour  Change
Usually when this happens you are functioning on empty
so when anyone asks anything of you it's hard to comply!
Please be sure to forgive yourself when you say no!
Sometimes you have to say no! Sometimes it hurts others,
but for your own sanity you have to do it!
I'm telling you that's okay!
Give yourself permission to say NO!
Other side of the envelope! So fun to create!
When you live with an illness, or grief, or a crisis,
you are enmeshed in the mess of it all day long.
You don't necessarily feel like sharing all the gritty
details or explaining yourself....sometimes
you just want a reprieve  to do your own thing!
So do it!!
Image created for a card
There is a possibility there will be judgement or hurt feelings.
Again if a person knows you and truly understands your
character they won't take it personally! Hopefully
they will give you the space, and the  benefit of doubt
that you may need a bit of silence to finish a project,
grieve peacefully, heal, unscramble a crisis or adapt
to a new way of life!

Sadly that is not always the case and relationships
can be put in peril. I have a rule with friendship.
Always know your friends have the best intentions!
So when you have hurt feelings you can resort to the
thought that your dear friend would never intentionally
hurt you! If they're caring souls and always treat others
well, you know they don't want to hurt you
in any way! Therefore the misunderstanding
is probably somethings they are wrestling with...
Let them, and love them anyway!
However if someone has an addiction it's
feasible there are those who will
refuse to witness the disintegration of
a person into  a mere ash of their
true self!  They may just be sick
and tired of toxic worry that hangs
 out with drama!
 Rightfully so!
Love them from afar!

Either way sometimes life is complicated and we
just have to leave it at that and know eventually
things will straighten out into your semblance
of normal!
It's pickle time!! Cupcake and I both wanted to do
up pickles this year. So this week I have been a
pickle lady. It's always way more fun doing it with
a friend. A couple of jars didn't seal, so the three of us
ate a whole jar of pickles in one sitting they're delicious!
I can only imagine how good they'll be in two months!!
In the meantime Cupcake went out and bought thirty more
pounds of pickling cukes! So guess what I'm doing tonight?

I was so excited that I found my moms recipe in her
hand writing. When I bit into that first homemade
pickle it brought back so many childhood memories,
of my mom and of cheddar cheese
and pickle sandwiches for lunch day after day!
Now I know why I loved them!

Moms Dill Pickles

16 cups of water
4 cups of vinegar
1 cup of pickling salt
fresh dill and dill seeds or
(dill weed instead of the seeds)
Two cloves of garlic for each jar
we use more!

We oven sealed them
instead of the water bath!
Many friends have done
that over the years!

We soaked them in ice water
too!! Nice and crunchy!

The last month Beardo has spent his holidays
and pretty much every day off building a wrap
around desk for our loft! It's 75 percent done.
The desk is in the living room along with
many pieces of cupboards and drawers as he
layers it with paint! The house is a wonderful
creative schmozzle right now!

Isn't this a terrible combination of colour! Some colours just aren't right together!

While we were pickling Cupcake said," The creative muse is here,
she seems to  like a messy house"...and I piped up
" Well I don't," we all laughed so happy to at least
be making things!

Two random interesting gals I saw in a photo, couldn't help but sketch them!
They are a work in progress as I await my
derwent inktense colour blocks! Susi was my inspiration as
she sketched a face last week and always has new fun ideas!
This is what is happening to the trees around here! The drought like
hot weather has them sadly turning way too early! Amazing how they
adapt! Tomorrow the rain starts and I am so looking forward to
the long awaited rainfall! Let's hope it happens!

Does your life get complicated at times to the point you just don't want to have to explain yourself?

Some good and deep thoughts to ponder along with some delightful artwork. Life can be complicated and it's good to give yourself permission to say NO. If we don't take charge of our own lives, then others will. That's when resentment come in...so I agree with your narrative.

BTW ~My maiden name was "Dill"....so what can I say.. Of course I love Dill Pickles...HaHa

Sending Hugs.

What a colorful, thoughtful rich post! I like the cat in different colors...
In friedship I never was successful, I dont't understand the rules and make many misstakes.
I dislike to explain autistic complexity of life, most people already don't understand. Well, that's life!
Happy PPF

I absolutely love pickles! And I would love to pickle my own, though I wouldn't know where to get the cucumbers from. I only ever see those big salad ones. They look delicious. Love your fabulous animals too! Ah yes, life can get complicated, and you just want to be left in peace. I like to get things down in my journal, it always helps me to feel calmer.

I love those pickling jars - I really like little gerkins and cornichons that are shop bought but I wouldn't have a clue where to buy them to pickle myself and I admire you for doing it yourself when often it's so much easier to just go to a store - there must be a certain satisfaction in doing it yourself though. Hey ho, turning part of our paddock into a vegetable garden is still on our to do list so you never know someday I might be a bit more self sufficient when it comes to food! I like the cat in the sunglasses and your sketch of the two ladies is fun!

Hope you got your rain. And I hope you like to eat pickles! Love your critters this week, they are SOOOOO cute and cheery. And this week's post is all about my life right now....too complicated. The hard part is lots of people forget what you are going through when life is complicated only making your life more complicated if you let them. Have a great weekend.

Sherrie, love your bird, too! True, life is complicated, especially for me at this time. Great post with your pickles, paintings, and wise comments.

I find that I make things more complicated then they need to be. My One Little Word this your is Simplify or Simplicity. I'm focusing not only on simplifying my life but how I approach things. While some folks make think KISS is a little crass, it has been a simple reminder for me this year. as always, your post always makes me think and reflect. Love it!

A thoughtful post Giggles with great illustrations.
It's incredible how each one can look so different with changing their colour. It shows how easy your choice of colour can affect your creation.
I've never tried pickling anything but love the idea. Maybe I should give it a go.
I love the idea of you finding your Mum's handwritten recipe. That's certainly a family treasure.
Have fun and Happy PPF to you

Life definitely can get complicated. My husband's illness was a time when I learned to say No often. Those who cared understood. Luckily, that was most people. Going through the grieving process is also difficult. Everyone handles it in their own way and I'm slowly learning what works for me.

Your wonderful cats with their sunglasses brought a smile to my face today. I enjoyed them this morning. A smile and great art - the perfect way to start the day. Thank you. Have a great week.

I LOVE your painted envelopes-what a gift in themselves! Those pickles look yummy, and it looks like you will all be enjoying the fruits of your hard work for a long time:) Fun sketches too. Happy PPF!

Loveeeeeeeeee your commentary today. Took a longggggggggg time for me being ok with no. Perfect timing your words! Love the art you know I'm total fan <3

You brought back memories for me. My mother always made pickles every year from the cucumbers she grew in her garden. Mustard and sweet pickles are what she made. As I remember, it was quite a chore, and long process. I've never wanted to tackle a project that size myself. I think you're brave!! :)

Our trees do that every year, too. Turn brown, and fall off from the heat and dryness. This year isn't as bad yet because we've been getting some rain now and then.

I had to chuckle a little at your question. I never want to explain myself, even when life is going smoothly. ;)

This is such a good subject, and a difficult one to resolve. Turning away requests and invitations is really hard and can offend, but as you so rightly say, sometimes necessary for one's own sanity.
I so love the cool cat with the sunglasses, what a marvellous invention! I hope we see him again. Your envelopes looks great too, what a good idea.
These two "girls" you have drawn - what a laugh! - I wonder if they read your blog and recognise themselves, hahaha!

Hi, and thanks a lot for your nice comment. You asked about homemade modgpodge. It's very easy to make: you mix water and some white, cheap glue.
About 1/5 glue, it depend on the materials you are using.
I've got the recipe from Susi's tutorial long time ago.
Have a woonderful weekend ♥

Such funky bright art as always!
Pickles, my hubby loves those, he too likes to make his own.
Enjoy the rain when it comes, I know what you mean about enjoying those first rainfalls after so many hot sunny days!

Julie Lee said...

I so know what you mean about saying 'No' sometimes. When I was younger I was always saying 'Yes' to everything and getting myself into all kinds of stressful situations, which I did not need to. I often neglected sorting out my own life because I was so busy with what people asked me to do for them. I have learned now that saying 'NO' doesn't necessarily mean we are unfriendly or unhelpful. Sometimes we just need time to charge our batteries so we can help more effectively in the future. I love your cat in sunglasses. You always choose such superb colours to combine in your posts. I can find it quite challenging knowing which colours are going to work together. It was interesting and helpful to see those which don't. I can't wait to see your ladies when you have received your Inktense blocks. xxx

your post made me smile, some people don't understand when you say I don't want to talk about it right now, some do....I looked at the pickles and said to myself, why don't you pickle, and myself said
because its to much work, but yours looks fabulous....

a wrap-around desk .... that sounds interesting! Please post pics when he's finished :-) Very wise words again this week, hard to do sometimes, but so necessary for our piece of mind. There's so much misunderstanding and hurt going around, while just being aware of what you're saying here would already clear things up...
