Canadian Thanksgiving

This weekend we celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving which
lands on the second Monday in October! No
matter how many things have gone wrong in my life I
have always had so much to be thankful for!!
Gratitude is such a key element to happiness Not just
paying it lip service by saying thank you...but really
feeling it deep in your soul.  Not everyone understands
that concept. I can't say I always fully understood it
However I have practiced it somewhat the majority
 of my life!
I always wondered how a girl  caught daydreaming in
school, married before age of consent, yet worked hard
could be so fortunate to have such amazing things!
I always felt blessed even when I was at my lowest points.
If I found myself drifting into a moment of " poor me"
I'd turn on the television and watch a program of real
distress in a third world country and snap right out of it!
There was a time where I stood  at the door of my
dream kitchen, soaking in the moment. Closing my eyes
to say thank you in my head for my good fortune!
I drank in the gratitude and felt pure joy. That kitchen
is long gone, but I am still grateful for the many years
of love and joy spent there with family and friends!
My next kitchen was loved not for it's beauty and size but
more for it's  affordability, function and  ability to create
the same delicious meals as always!
I have passed the torch to Cupcake, even though
the kitchen is somewhat  tired and old now it is still
so loved for all the wonderful meals my dear daughter
produces in there!  The kids recently gave it a new coat
of paint, and Cupcake painted a few chipped cupboard
doors by the sink until we can replace them!
Appreciating and honouring what we already have
always attracts good things to us!
Sometimes though, because I was frugal and budget minded
I would not always feel grateful for money wasted on me!
Frivolous gifts would frustrate me, knowing I  was in such
need of things much more practical. Over time I changed
my perception of how I received presents. Honoring the
moment and enjoying the heart behind the gift!
My needs are beautifully met! I may have struggles,
with aches and pains but I love and feel so grateful
for what I have. As we approach this Thanksgiving
I am so grateful for all the love and kindness
in my world. For my cozy home, children who
care so lovingly for me, creative spaces,
laughter and scrabble of course! After all I am
the Happy Tiler!!
What are you most grateful for this week?
Big or small it all matters!!
Geraniums still blooming Oct 6th 2016th
Happy Thanksgiving to all my Canadian Friends!

Happy Thanksgiving. On ours we celebrate the Pilgrims landing on Plymouth Rock. What do Canadians celebrate? This weekend we are supposed to be celebrating Columbus discovering America but there is a lot of controversy over that since he massacred many Indians upon his arrival Thanks for another great, creative and colorful page.

Terrific post, Sherrie. It is a joy to be around grateful people. I, like you, used to feel that maybe a more practical gift would have been better. But also like you, I began to just enjoy the moment and the love behind the gift. I try to remember to say thank you for having the privilege of one more day. My birthday just passed and I got taken out for lunch 3 days in a row by loving friends. Oh, how grateful I was even when 2 of the friends also lavished me with tangible gifts! Many women in my ancestry died at the age of 81. On my birthday, I awoke and said: Thank you, Lord. I made it to 82!

Especially love the first two pieces with the fall colors. So much to be thankful for. We got evacuated from the beach is week after exactly 24 hours of vacation. Thankful that we were warned in advance and had somewhere to go. Thankful to be inland and home now.

Happy Thanksgiving Giggles! We do have much to be thankful for here in Canada and least of all this beautiful early fall weather. I am in shorts today...still, and basking in the sunshine.

What a joy it is to follow your years of personal growth to become a person who understands and appreciates what is important. Material gifts are symbolic of the kind hearts that extend them, so yes, I always appreciate what someone offers me from their heart. Friends, family, pets, the nature I am surrounded with, my lovely neighbors and finally at this old age, I have stared to appreciate myself, which, in turn, allows me to give of myself to others in ways I didn't know I was capable of. I feel others pain as if it were my own and that allows me to understand and reach out in productive ways ... I am thankful that I have lived long enough to understand my experiences for what they are and to be at Peace with who I am. This was a lovely post Giggles ... Happy Thanksgiving :)

Beautiful art and a lovely post. I find something everyday to be thankful for even in the tough times and there have been and are many. Right now I am thankful my kids, grandkids and great grandkids are safe from Mathew. So many other things to be grateful for but that is the big one. Have a happy Thanks Giving.

I am more of a negative Nancy so it is good that you are so grateful for everything. You should be grateful that you don't have a potential Trump in the White House. I am grateful that I have two wonderful children and a geriatric guinea pig called Marshmallow. Happy PPF

Hi giggles. I love your halloween themed header and of course your faces and dogs. Lovely bold artwork. I am grateful I have a place of my own.., there are 2 lovely parks nearby...and the neighbourhood is quiet.

Great colourful art - but then there often is. The pink spotted cow with the lovely pink flowers is my favourite today, I loved it as soon as I saw it. I also like the sweet bird singing away, cheep, cheep, cheep! Your header is priceless, looks like it will be a great party. I especially like Miss Green-Jaggy hair, the pirate and the witch.
Happy Canadian Thanksgiving, hope you have had a great weekend in your lovely land.
