# 17 My attempt at Frida Kahlo |
|
Last Sunday our family was up at four thirty in the morning to watch our Canadian boys play Olympic hockey! It was so worth the getting up for! They won gold! To celebrate, my adult children built a patriotic snowman named Pete! I couldn't resist painting him for Lynns new blog, and to commemorate the rare snowfall last weekend! I'd have preferred black eyes but he's not my snowman!!

Once a week we like to get a burger at our favorite haunt. Pretty sure they call us the pickle people since we always get two pickles on all the burgers. Even though it's rarely busy sometimes it's a rigamarole to request no mayo for Cupcake who has an egg allergy. Every so often we get someone who rambles so quickly through the order trying to be so efficient we just know it's going to be wrong! Even if we ask them to repeat it back. I half expect them to shoot the burgers into our car to complete the order quicker.

It's humiliating to ask to have it redone, hoping they don't spit on it the next go round!! I am always as polite as can be. I just wish people could connect at a more sincere level. So many corporations big and small push their employees so hard to be quick. The world is in such a hurry. Everyone wants a big bang for their buck without truly connecting to humans beings. I'm a regular, I don't want to pull ahead and wait beyond a window when no one is behind me just so I'm not sitting on their timer. Or have them apologize for the wait when it truly didn't take very long.

I feel for people always in a rush, hurrying to this and that. So many beautiful things are missed during that rush. I appreciate people being efficient but that's a lot different than being rushed!

Are you a person who is rushing through life disconnected, scavenging for free time to create?
|
#22 Jo |
Or are you an efficient person who connects with others in a sincere way,
making time to create?
|
#23 Catalina |
Or do you leave behind all the daily minutia
so you can live the creative life?

Dear Giggles, lovely portraits (so expressive) and very charming snowman. I do rush sometimes in my life but I do not like it and try to slow down when I notice it. And I do agree with you that world is in such a hurry :). We all need to expand our awareness and allow ourselves to slow down. Thank you for beautiful post and thoughts and for reminder about slowing down. Big hugs!
wow you have been busy Giggles with all those wonderful faces. Love love love the modern Frida Kahlo. Happy PPF, Annette x

I love Nola's teeth, and Elma is just the sweetest little lady. Your digital oneliners are really good too. I never tried a oneliner digitally, you just gave me an idea ... ;-) I often feel like time is running away from me, but I find I can easily get lost in creating, or reading, or talking to people. Afterwards I'm always amazed how fast the time flies. I hate rushing from here to there, and can only do that for a very limited amount of time, and only when it's really really necessary ...
What fabulous portraits! I love Elma! :) I know what you mean about the quick service. I was once in a store checkout and the lady behind me kept pushing her trolley at me because as soon as you pay, they start on the other costumer without waiting for the first one to collect their groceries. It was ridiculous! On purpose I first collected my groceries then payed and everyone was looking at me like WTH was I doing?? :))) Well, I'm sorry but it's not the apocalypse. You can wait 30 seconds.
Your faces are wonderful. Love the snowman and yes it is a fast paced world we live in...
Hope you enjoy the youtube video link it was such a fun one to do..
Happy PPF
Sandy :)
Lovely work! LOVE Frida! Valerie
Frida, Elma and Catalina are my favorites. WoW!!! Amazing!
And, your post is absolutely true...I agree with you fully. Having no time to really connect, everything becoming mechanical, and life getting unbearable leading to illnesses and depression- this is the story of the world today.
Giggles, so much of care and concern in your writing, I'm sure someone reading this will definitely try to connect more sincerely. Pause. Think.
Often in a hurry, we trample over people and don't give two hoots for another human beings wants, however small it might be.
This is the best post I have read in a while! Hats off!
I just love your portraits! All with so much character and life. Really fun. What a super collection of art portraits! I am often rushing trying to get art made for work. I haven't had any time to make something nice "just because" for about two weeks now. I'm tired out but I was thinking I would stop work today and just play a game with my afternoon.
Like your Frida! Might have to try painting her.
Happy PPF!
Thanks for visiting! It's good to be around again and now to read your post and see your art!
I really agree with you about people rushing and pushing, it can be difficult to master the speed of it all. I'm really a slow type of person. I like to take my time and do things properly, but my way! So I often live in my own little world, while the world spins faster and faster, I can't keep up with it all always :-)
I love your art as always, Frida and Catalina are my favorites!
Sending you hugs and wish you a wonderful weekend
Ilona
Well done with all the Faces project :-)
Wow - How cool to see all of these faces together... It's great to see such variety! I am so, so enamored with your digital faces - I think they are fantastic! I am very intimidated by digital art & I am so impressed when people (like you) can do it so beautifully :)

Nola is my kind of gal, but I like Ruth too. Wonderful faces. xox
Love them all, especially Frida. I am finally coming round to making peace with time. Seems it is one thing that I can always boil down to being the cause of a bad mood. I gave up wearing a watch a couple of years ago now, and that made a HUGE difference. I do find that there is no concept of time when in the studio which is superb in my mind. M.x
Wonderful paintings, all of them, so individual and so 'Giggles'. I like Ruth's colours, they suit her personality, and both digital one-liners are great fun.
Cataline and Elma speak to me, and I connect with them. Everything you do is so individual and original.
But the crême de la crême is your painting of Frida, you have captured her perfectly and her serious face. Poor lady, such a sad life, but she was certainly a fighter and very original artist. Have you seen the movie/DVD of 'Frida'. Wonderfully done.
These are all awesome painting and I love them all. Elma is cool. I always have liked your colorful style. Great work and pickles sounds great. I love pickles. :) Have a great day.
First off- congrats on the Gold-def. being up so early for!! Your faces have such great expressions and colors. Besides Frida, know who I think your beautiful portrait looks like? Ever hear of Katarina Witt-Olympic skater from Germany? I always thought she resembled Frida :)I def. take my time about things and don't sweat it. Often I even let people in front of me in a waiting line. It makes them smile (usually) and grateful. I feel the same.Smile. And grateful I have patience:) Good post my dear!
Thanks for sharing these charming faces; have a nice Friday
happy you stopped over at my blog
much love...
Dear Sherrie Love your faces each one is so unique. The snowman looks adorable. Thank you for coming with another thought provoking post. It is so relevant in this age in which we live.
Happy PPF

Wonderful paintings of faces, although I especially like your victory snowman. Yay for gold medals. :)
Happy PPF!
I love all your colorful art - but - Elma is just wonderful. I got a big smile from her. I get a smile just coming to visit you here!
I make the time to create. Wonderful collection and variety of face, Giggles.
Wowness and goodness..such brilliant and captivating characters...beautiful expressiveness always..I so appreciate that about you..in colors..and feeling and personality and energy-movement that vibes out strongly! Your Frida is exquisite...gorgeous and intense...awesome!
yay congrats on the other blog..love the snowman!!
HUgs and blessings\Victoria
Each face is wonderful - so many times you we ask ourselves to 'challenge' we end up with duplicated efforts - you have completely avoided that while remaining in your style. Tough job. Adore them all. Happy Ppf.
Such a lot of great characters here as always! There is so much rush in life today and so much pressure people put on themselves. I love home and a slow peaceful life.
Being with my little Lulu is wonderful, she is a quiet and sensitive soul. Time with her is peaceful and so good, I'm blessed!
Blessings your way, have a slow and relaxing week-end dear friend,
hugs
Kat
Love all these faces. Thanks for your lovely comments.
I'm to the point of spending too much time creating, and not enough time living life..because creating is my job, and I'm in my studio for far too many hours every day. I'm so burnt out. I just told my husband yesterday that I HAVE to stop working so much. I need time away from my studio. Yay for weekends, and for slowing life down a bit!! :)))
I like all your portraits, but I'm especially impressed with your gorgeous Frida Kahlo. Blessings, my friend!
All your faces are super, Sherrie. Frida is just wonderful. Too bad about the drive-through errors. How about sending someone in to get the food done right? I know it's not drive-through but at least there would be a better chance of getting things right. You are right about the restaurants having a push for speed. My daughter worked at a cafeteria one summer when she was in school. She told us about the concept of "line speed"" and how they were urged to aim for increased speed.
your faces are so fun and interesting! They are full of color and expressions too. Have a happy weekend! xo
Your faces are extraordinary!!! So different, however, so you as well. Wonderful work! I am so far behind with my 29 faces...
I'm no friend of rushing through life at all. Efficient - yes, please. But thoughtless hurrying? No way. I also don't like small talk - and am not good at it. That actually leaves one out of many things, but I don't think I'm missing out on anything essential.
As usual, I find your post very refreshing!
Thank you for your kind words about my Dad's passing away - it means a lot.
Ohhhh! There's so much to say! ;0 First of all, I love love love your faces! You've been so busy. I love all of your bold colors and big cheeks - and am crazy about Elma, #20!
And I saw the real version of their snowman! We've connected on Instagram, and I loved it then as I do now. You're depiction is perfect! I bet they love the artistic reminder :)
And I think I fall somewhere between trying to carve out time and never feeling like I have enough of it to begin with. I have been better about journaling lately and that does feel good ;)
xoxo
oh my GOSH!!! What a range of fantastic paintings... I love them all!
Happy weekend!
Your blog is a treat to visit always !!..Delightful colors and sketches and the emotions behind...absolutely awesome :)

Good morning Giggles,
The men's hockey was just awesome! Loved it.
Frieda is amazing, she is very beautiful.
So glad I'm not the only one who finds life so rushed! I have never worn a watch.
Without a time tracker, I feel free as a bird with an open field in front of me.
Sometimes the feeling of time at hand feels enormous and that's when I reel in so much in way of creativity. I suppose it's what I have kept with me from back when I lived in Italy. Rushing isn't a good thing, makes life shorter!

Hi Giggles! I want Jo's coat! I would love to see your house... I bet it is bursting with color! xo
Your 29 faces all look great. I love that you try different things with each one.
It seems that everything is rushed anymore. People even talk faster. I think that's why I don't like social media...it's just little quickie things. How can anyone really connect with someone using such quick, fast communication!
SO many wonderful faces! I think Frida is my favorite! Happy PPF!
You know I love all of your art. Well done on Frida. Hhhmmm we don't eat fast food but if you don't want mayo you should be able to get it that way. LOL
I am both, organized and then scrambling at times. But I always make sure I am connecting with people. Does that make sense?

Your faces are fun. I think Frida would be pleased.
These painting of faces are fantastic, each and every one! Some have wonderful texture. Some are so expressive. Others Imbide a bit of humor. Wow!
Me? I schedule my day so I have time to both exercise and draw in the morning. Both life affirming for me. I enjoy the art the best. My career calls for me to be sensitive to the people I work with. Last week I took on too much I think as I wound up totally drained emotionally and physically. That rarely happens, but it did. So this weekend I'm hanging out at home and taking it real easy. I'd suggest making your own slow food so you can eat without fear of it being compromised. ;-)) just sayin'! Hugs and HPPF on Saturday night!

I find myself rushing thru life and then go into the reverse.... where everyday mundane chores and such just get forgotten and I devote my time to being creative. Somewhere some time I will find a balance.
All are wonderful! Great artwork! Especially I love your Frida!!
Thank you for visiting my blog.
All faces are amzing, but I love your Frida Kahlo.! I hope we are getting soon an other challenge.
