Newvember!!! Before and After Hair!

This is the photo of Beardo taken just a few moments
 before the big event!

After thirteen years of having long hair,
(usually tied back, see the elastic still around his wrist
defining him as an artist, he decided to make a change!
For the last six month this gentle giant who's always
kept shiny shampoo conditioned beard and hair
has been  searching for a stylish cut
that would entice him to take the leap!
He was able to donate it to wigs for kids which thrilled
him to bits since he's cut it once before for cancer donation!
We shall see how long this musician keeps it
short before reverting back to a lengthy style!
Both Cupcake and I love long hair, so
we love his hair either way!
However we both agree he sure
  looks handsome with it short!
Cheers to change in
Newvember!!

Paint Party Friday #29

It's paint party Friday again!  I look forward to it every week, traveling around to all the fascinating blogs to see what everyone is working on is so much fun!
Here's an older painting I plan on reworking... the males face needs some work.I don't care for his nose, eyes, or skin tone... the whole thing needs more work!

This week I've had a few lunches with different friends. One friend I see annually, but there was a time we were besties. Family obligations pulled us apart, but the love's still there! We make sure to meet around our birthdays. But for the first time in twenty five years the time got away on us!! Funny how no matter how much time goes by we take up where we left off. We chatted for four hours and I had such a loving feeling for my friend when we parted!  I even  had a few tears too, for all the memories we shared in our twenties and thirties, and how fleeting life is. We worked hard, laughed hard and played hard too! We shared many secrets and no matter how little we see each other the love is still there! I had my camera out but some how it didn't seem appropriate to take a photo! Wish I did though.

Check out this HUGE transformation. I've carted my grandfathers table around to three different homes  for the past thirty five years and never painted it. Mostly it had a cloth over top of it or it was in a garage! Recently I decided it needed new life instead of being a dust collector. See how ugly it was!!!
Before The ugly side table

I had  silver knobs laying around the house and threw them on after it was painted.  Then Dear Daughter came home with these awesome rose knobs that were the perfect match. What a difference they made. Then she went back and bought me enough for my bedroom suite. So that will soon be on the agenda to revamp. Also thirty five years old and in much need of sprucing up!

Which do you prefer, the rose knobs or the silver ones! Be honest I won't be offended!

Kitchen Before and After on a tight budget

My Kitchen before and after on a tight budget
I know these photos look light and bright. Some may think it's looks fine, but I promise you all the veneer on these cupboards had cracks of wear over time. It's a modest kitchen compared to a few dream kitchens I've had. Nonetheless, it's easy to work in and suits my life now just fine!

I've never been much of a white person, but I like it better than beige so it's no wonder the walls were once painted purple. A nice muted purple that everyone commented on and loved. Including me.I have many purple accessories that really stood out!

I wasn't quite ready to relinquish the purple kitchen to the apple green. I had been checking online for two years to see what the green I hankered for looked like. I test out the virtual kitchens with black cupboards. But when Pepper purchased the paint, I was anxious to let go of my cozy kitchen, and family room.

Photo taken July1st 2007
Once the white veneer was pulled off, it exposed press
board,
which was primed then painted with an oil based Benjamin Moore paint
that smooths out after application.
Then an special oil base black paint was applied. It took two coats and people were astonished at the difference. It's been done over a year and a half now but the little extra touches took a bit of time to complete.

After Photo taken December 22, 2008
Black was used for the cupboards, Benjamin Moore apple green latex for the covered up purple walls. My taste is unique, it's not for everyone. Many feel the cupboards are too dark, yet note that it's a wonderful improvement. Don't feel obligated to lie and say you like it! Truthfully I never expect anyone to enjoy my tastes. It's fun, it's me and it was a great change. Bryan and Pepper did an amazing job and we all enjoy the clean vibrant look!
I would eventually like to change the counter tops, they may even be painted. I need new floors and a new stove. Only two burners work on mine, they have been changed once before.
That's my art corner, my spot on the couch where the little white table ,
( that I love) is used to do my art. The coffee table harbors many art supplies.

That's my family room that often gets very cluttered with art supplies. I tidy them up and throw small dark blankets over them when company visits! Years ago that would be unheard of, and everything would have been painstakingly returned to it's proper place. But I need access to my paints and such in order to keep creating. That perfectly tidied house gets forfeited for my art! Ultimately I am happier for it too! Besides I try to take company into my living room. Still they gravitate to this room! There you have it the main rooms I live in when I'm not at the computer or sleeping!

Estrogen Frenzy

Finally after three years of growing his tresses, Bryan severed it for cancer. His determination was admirable as it has been way too weighty for some time. Wanting to be sure to have at least ten to twelve inches to donate and then still maintain some semblance of a musician’s style. That, and the fact that us girls whined at the mere suggestion of him cutting his beautiful mane.

Yesterday was the day. The beauty salon was full of girl squeals the moment he released his mane from the double pony tail. There was an estrogen frenzy, as everyone surrounded him. Ally our hairdresser seductively ran her hands through the mass procuring her creative juices. Long, thick, wavy, virgin hair is enough to put any hairdresser in a trance.

My mother was a beautician for forty-three years and absolutely abhorred working on long hair, except to cut it! Her arms ached while doing extensive tresses, so when anyone booked a perm, or highlights for lengthy locks, especially if it was thick, she’d be tempted to decline them.

Still able to contain it in a ponytail for work Bryan is thrilled about loosing a few pounds off his head and neck. No more fur barrier! No more night sweats because the hair is acting as a blanket. No more having to spend half an hour combing the knots out after a shower. No more waiting hours for his locks to dry.

Do you think he will grow it back? Or cut it shorter?.............. I’m not telling!!

It was a beautiful gesture of love, from a Johnny Cash worshiper! Not surprising at all coming from such an incredibly thoughtful man as
Bryan!
