Ugly exterior
Sunday Scribblings prompt this week it to finish the sentence " I knew instantly....."
"I knew instantly we would not step one foot out of the car.
” We SAID, NO... CEDAR... SIDING!” I exclaimed adamantly. Exhausted, disillusioned I was determined not to exit the Realtors car.My head was spinning after traipsing through homes the whole day.
He turned off the engine. Aware he was losing me, he cleared his throat, dropped his voice down a notch, “This house is full of potential, it’s not decorated, so a person has full options to have the colors they want! It's a real treasure!”
We were his captive audience, but his tender demeanor was not working on me. I crossed my arms, thinking it was a heck of a lot of cedar to paint in the future. Knowing my ex didn’t have the gumption to start a project that big with any sort of glee. I certainly had no plans of staining it myself. Plus we were on a very tight budget with this move; it would be an expensive endeavor. Still the Realtor did not start the car.
“Just have a look” he pleaded.
Annoyed I was determined not to budge.
“The owner built it himself with his son, they intended to stay. It’s a great house….” he continued desperate to break through my stubborn barrier.
“We said, NO cedar siding,” I reiterated slightly calmer.
“Please just look at this house! What can it hurt? If you look at this one and don’t like it, then I promise I’ll not ask you to look at any others, but at least I'll have a better idea of what you want.
Begrudgingly I stepped out of the car. My heart started pounding as we entered; I knew it was my house. We signed the papers May 12th, 1985, later that evening I got pregnant!
We lived there four years then bought our dream home, which was a lot smaller
and prettier.

Some times what we know instantly is completely wrong. It's a gorgeous house.
Its is so difficult to find a house which is home. Great you found one.
I knew instantly
That was such a nice read down a lovely memory lane. I can see why you knew instantly it was THE house for you!
Love that staircase! 2 of my babies had jaundice too! Wasn't that scary? THAT AND that belly button thing!

I don't know that house looks pretty nice. The view was great and I like all the windows and opportunity for light coming in. Love the woodstove area.
I think it's a beautiful home. I love all the windows. I'm glad you got your dream house though. Thanks for sharing.

What a beautiful home, not to mention you concieved the light of your life! XXOO
I felt I was back watching "Property Virgins" or "House Hunters" on TV. This is our 10th house we've owned, and I can't even count the other we lived in for awhile. But, I'm happy here in my bloom where you are planted philosophy.
'Twas a lovely place - the stove appeals to me, for sure, today - and the stairway and huge windows. I had a perfect house once.
Oh, what a beautiful house! I love it! I love all the windows, the staircase, the fireplace, everything.
It's lovely, Sherrie! The view is tremendous.
Those views, that staircase, and the joy of knowing you conceived!
I can see why you had that initial reaction, and why you instantly knew it was yours upon crossing the threshold.
What wonderful window views! I love the fireplace in the corner and the spiral staircase - how cool!
