Sunday Scribblings prompt this week is appropriately "Captivate"
When being captivated turns into being captive!
Mental Carnage
Mental Carnage
Captive is the child
Who’s father moved away
Taking with him
Mental illness
And a wife
Captive is the daughter
Worrying about
Things she
Can’t change
Or see
Captive is the woman
Living alone
With a stranger
She thought
She knew
Captive is the truth
Ricocheting
Back at you
After years
Of denial
Captive is the divorcee
Who knows
The new wife’s fears
And sits back
Mummified
Captive are those who know
What may come
What could be
As they wait
In dismay

We are all captives, in our own way. As someone once said, it is hard for the free fish to understand the hooked one.
Hi Giggles. Wow, intense, very intense. I loved it. Another side of you. We learn about each other all the time. Loved it and thx for sharing.
Powerful! I like how you used 'captive' instead of captivate
What a lot of stories are hidden in these verses. The reader is certainly captivated.
WoW! This is an intensely thought-provoking piece.
I, on the other hand, am captive for & captivated by love. ;-)
Thanks for sharing.
Very deep and thought-provoking poem here. So many ways of being held captive.
Love your poetry ~ visiting from Sketch Sunday ~ love your work ~ thanks for coming by my blog today ~ namaste, Carol (artmusedog)
Wow, moving piece and very meaningful. Not the sort of piece you'd expect from some called Giggles, but then we all have many sides.
What an interesting use of the word..hadn't even thought of how captivated is very different from being captive..very strong words..Jae
Isn't that all the truth!
That is a lovely scribble and a wonderful song at the end.
Have a great Sunday :)
Thank you for stopping by and leaving such warm thoughts/care for me and my father during such a difficult time. I really appreciate it.
Peace of mind is really a great asset... :/
Love the music video, very nice. Thanks for sharing.
Indeed! A thin line lies between "captivate" and "captive"- but the two reside in such different worlds.
on paper wings
The captive eventually frees herself with time.
Very lovely post.
Loved these little pieces of reality- very clever and poignant. My favorite is about truth and years of denial. Beautiful and hard hitting.
