Be Your Own Valentine!!! Paint Party Friday

I love Valentines day!! What could be better than celebrating love! Even though I've not had a partner in sixteen years I just love the idea of a day filled with heart shapes, good chocolate, the color red and love! When first on my own I would celebrate by buying myself carnations a week before prices soared for the fourteenth. I have no expectations for that day....I just love the idea of it....the romance movies, decorated store fronts and yummy foods!

I have never let being single get me down. One year I even celebrated with a quirky alone group! We all went downtown for dinner! Each personable quirky single person more than happy to live the solo lifestyle!

Often there is a stigma with not being paired up, but I find living a creative life takes so much time. It wouldn't be fair to pull another into that mix when all things creative take precedence! If the truth be told I rarely see a couple I'd want to be anyway!

I've been the envy of some married friends, yet being single is always a trade off. As enjoyable as not answering to another is, there can be fiscal challenges.   Being resourceful and handy is imperative for a woman alone! When something goes wrong, you're on your own!

Some women are treated as a threat, ousted out of couples events. Not much of a man hunter I was never a threat.  Fortunately I was still included with my married couples. However later in life there is never a shortage of single women to hang with. Having dabbled in  the marriage scene with adverse affect they have no desire to pair up again!

So if you're newly single, dreading  that day of love, do something kind for yourself....

Splurge on your favorite take out meal with some junk food in the mix!
Buy yourself your favorite flowers, a new lipstick, or a new cd.
Visit your favorite place in nature.
Buy a new book, a magazine, a new cozy pair of slippers.
Call another single friend to join you for a movie
Explore somewhere new in your city
Splurge on some fancy new art supplies...
Buy your favorite spirits, make a nice place setting and watch a movie.
What ever you do, don't fret without a partner.
Choose to make yourself happy first!...it's only a day...
it can be anything you choose it to be!
No matter what, love yourself the best way you know how,
because you're worth it!
Be proud of your choices, be proud of yourself!

What special thing will you do for Valentines day?

Happy paint party Friday and 29 faces .....I am on #11 only three behind.....

Great advice for single people! It never bothered me to be single when I was...there are pros and cons to everything. The important thing is just to be happy no matter what.

I love your colorful love filled pieces. As a father of 2 girls, I enjoyed your post too. My wife and I've always instilled in them to love themselves and to find happiness in what they do. We want them to be independent strong women that don't need a man to be happy. However, I am aware of how society and peer pressure can be, especially at their ages. Blessings!

Great art, especially the lady with the green eyes. I admire people like you who have made it singlely. I have never been single since I married a year out of college and was still living with my parents. I'll have to say that the first few years of our 55 together were not easy. We both had to learn to put our own wants aside and make an effort at compromise. My husband is loving and caring. I wish everyone had someone like him to share their twilight years with. The sad thing about long marriages is that "night" draws closer with every year together. That sort of singleness is really tough.

Enjoyed your post and faces of lots of expressions. It makes me wonder though about being "single." We celebrate 32 years of marriage yesterday and what Faye says about that "night" drawing closer kind of gives me goose bumps. Life is so short and don't we all wish we had it longer. So with that in mind, I will enjoy today with gusto! Be healthy, be happy, and take care.:) just me, gloria.

You are too good to be true! I have missed everyone at PPF for the last 3 weeks. You never disappoint. You are right on all fronts. I have been mate-less for 16 years now. Sometimes when tired I wish I could leave the "heavy-lifting" to someone else. But I relish my time alone on weekends and in the evenings, and as you said, in the couple I've seen, there are few I would want to emulate. I love your colorful work and your positive outlook.

I love all these arty faces! Wonderful designs in some, pensive looks in others.

Wonderful words for the pursuit of happiness. Whether solo or not! I applaud how well you take care of yourself!

Happy Valentines Day!

We sat by a merry go round after a nummy dinner watching someone else's little kids running about. So cute to see. We laughed as delighted as they were.

Such a lot of beautiful images, and every one a winner. The last jolly fellow makes me think of a carnival mask in Venice, beautifully painted ..... But a little scarey at the same time. Great post to ponder on as usual. Will think on you all day.
Being alone and being lonely are not linked -there are so many people in a couple who are lonlier than a single person. (Talking from experiences of friends here, not mine!).
Keep happy, keep well. XX

Wow, so many powerful works of art! So much expression and love you spread with your post!

Valentines day is not of much importance to me, I have never celebrated it (I'm living in the cold north of Germany ;-)) But then, my life is full of love at all times, can't be otherwise for me.

Hugs Ilona

I love all these great faces, hearts, and beautiful colors. But most of all, Giggles, I love your beautiful attitude. It is so important to build a life that suits you and then embrace it and be happy! So many of us seem to constantly reach for whatever it is we do not have. Your post just exudes contentment and joy!

Carola Bartz said...

I was single for almost 20 years before I was ready to tie the knot and I have never forgotten that time. There are pros and cons to both life styles. Being happy is more important than chosing a certain life style. You can be deliriously happy as a single person and profoundly unhappy as a married one.
Your faces are great! I love them, as well as your beautiful hearts.

ANNE said...

Love your hearts!!! And I do all of the things in your list except for the getting together with other singles... ever feel like a fish out of water around some people? That's me with the single women I find around these parts.

Oh well, someday I'll find someone cool and nonjudgmental to hang out with and we'll paint or DIY or just hangout. Until then, I have to say, I really enjoy my own company!!

Happy PPF!

Yeah, single is good. I enjoyed it when I was. But I also enjoy being married. I guess it's just where you are and what you make of it, hmmmmm? LOL Sometimes I wish I were single again, but if I were, I'd sometimes be wishing myself back. I think it's that greener grass. xoxo

I love your faces! I love the idea of Valentine's day too, a day to celebrate love... I don't think it has to be a romantic love, I think back to school days and Valentines for everyone one. I really enjoy your art and your post is very thought inspiring.
