Call me what you want! Paint Party Friday

Kenzie Face # 10
Forty odd years ago when I first got married my mother expected my new husband to call her mom. He refused.  I understood. He already had a mother and felt loyal to that. The truth was he never felt comfortable calling his mother in law, mom. My mother was very good to him, she stayed pretty neutral instead she would  criticize us as a couple. She was never satisfied he was good enough for me, and  he knew it!

Nerd Girls Mother Carmel  dancing face #11

We managed a pretty decent marriage for several years, in comparison to others!  We were fiscally secure and enjoyed many hours of conversation. No one stays with a person close to twenty five years if there weren't some good moments!  But Mom was right.... he was never for me.  Eventually the marriage died as many do. Because of my precious daughter I'd not change one ugly moment, without that marriage there would be no Cupcake. Without Cupcake, there would be no Beardo who I adore like a son.
Nerd Boys Dad Jack face #12 I think he has a secret regarding lipstick!

Truth be told, I'm not sure if Beardo refers to me as mom, as Cupcakes mom, or his monster mother in law when speaking of me with  clients or work mates.  However, I have never expected him to call me mom.  Pretty sure he refers to me by name which I asked him to call me thirteen years ago when we first met! I could care less what he calls me, as long as he doesn't call me late for dinner!! Sorry bad old joke....
Hayes #16
Mother  was so hurt at my exes refusal to call her mom. It left such a bitter taste in my mouth that she made it such a big deal!  A person has one mom!  Beardo's mom has ten children, they all adore her. We are different in every way imaginable, but she's a woman  I admire so much! One things for sure, we love our children immeasurably, yet differently. My daughter feels comfortable referring to her as mom  and she loves her to bits! I am proud that she loves her other mom so deeply! I've never felt threatened by such a lovely woman! She has earned the name after raising ten amazing children!

Kaydee Face #13

I always thought it was so petty to worry what someone calls you, unless of course they get your name wrong, shorten it to something odd or saddle you with a nick name you detest!  As sweet as my son in law is his name is spelt with a Y, even when I spell it out for people, nine out of ten times they get it wrong.  It's just a pet peeve of his that never gets rectified and it frustrates him!
Blain Face #14
My son in law treats me better than ANY man has ever treated me in my life. He's always loving, considerate, kind, respectful and generous with me, as I am with him! We are really good friends too!! How someone treats you should be way more important than what they call you! Upon reflection  I still wonder why it was such a big deal that mom needed  to be called mom. Maybe it was because my cousins spouses endearingly called my aunt /her sister mom...I don't know.

Zaya Face # 15
Mom  wanted with me, what I have with my kids now, yet she went about everything so wrong.  Cupcakes dad wasn't comfortable calling her mom, truthfully his own mom didn't exactly rate top notch status either...  Still I gave her the respect of calling her mom because that's how I was brought up....
I think I just answered my own question....oh for the power of blogging eh?
Face #17
I always say you measure a man by his character!
My son in law Beardo laughs at my jokes, worries and looks after my needs, cares what I think and feel. He does things for me daily, cares deeply for my daughter and treats her the same! He is always kind, generous, helpful and sweet to everyone! Not once have I ever felt judged by him, even though there is a LOT to judge!
He supports my creativity and at times cleans up after me!!  Blush.
We can talk for hours, or not talk at all!
We can tease each other and giggle all evening long about it!
He is always comfortable to be around!
Really at this point it's irrelevant what he calls me ......
because I know he loves me,
I love him and  FEEL like his mom!

What has someone said to annoy you  that you realized later was irrelevant or unreasonable on your part? Are you particular about how people address you?

I am caught up on my faces but a few of them I really hate...so I am replacing them!

A fun variety of faces. And an interesting post about expectations. Thanks for sharing!

Nice art to go with your interesting post! I don't call my mother in law 'mom' either. And my husband doesn't call my mom 'mom' either! Over the years I've grown to respect my mother in law, she is pretty strong, would be tough to live with her.

Oh it is so difficult to choose my fave, perhaps no 15. They all are awesome. I could never call my mother in law Mum. She was hard and disliked me with a passion (I stole her baby!) My Mum wanted my ex to call her by her name. I don't mind what people call me as long as it is not 'wot's it'?

I don't know which faces you don't like, but what a fascinating set! I'm trying to decide which ones I like best ....... OK, number 11 with her great spectacles and lime frock, number 12 with his lipstick haha! - he's so cool, and maybe number 13 because she is such a mixed up lady.
You are so lucky to have two close people in your life who love you and whom you love and thanks for sharing that with us.

Mom is a mom for a child. Dot.
We all have names and especially when adults we should be equal.

Wonderful paintings! And looks like you three have a great relationship. I cannot imagine calling another person mom, so I don't quite understand that logic. :) We do have a tendency to call the parents grandpa and grandma when the kids come in the family. But never mom and dad if they're not our own.

#10, 13 and 16 are my favorites. Love them! Maybe it's Canadian to call your mother-in-law mom? I don't know anyone who calls their m-i-l mom. I would hate it if the future partners of my kids would call me mom, and I certainly never would ask them to. I'm not their mom, they have their own mom. I have had an experience where the son of my hubby's cousin called me auntie and I did not like it. I'm not his aunt,so I don't want to be called auntie by him. My irritation could've had something to do with the fact that he is a very annoying little pain-in-the-ass though.... ;-)

LOVE these faces this week. They make me smile. I don't know who is my favorite, but since I am a nerdy lady and a mom, I think I am nerd mom. Ha-ha. My husband and my mom barely talk- she doesn't like him much-never has- and we've been married almost 26 years.Kind of sad she has to be so narrow minded. Luckily my mother-in-law likes me-but I would never call her mom! We both sound very lucky though to have a super relationship with our daughters and their guys.

I love each and every face. It looks as though you are enjoying the challenge very much.

I think what we call someone can be a sign of respect but I think how we treat them is much more important. Sounds like you have a wonderful and close relationship with Beardo. How special for both of you!

I've so missed visiting with you. I didn't even get to post last week - life often interferes with good intentions. There are so many things I thought were important when I was younger that I realized now were insignificant. And how I fussed and worried about some of them. Your faces are so dear and colorful - and just downright fun. I love the "funk" in your art - I am not a photo realist in what I like. So keep on painting and posting (this post was terrific!)

My husband doesn't call my mother mon either. That's the way it is and I accept it. Your paintings are lots of fun and I love them all. Have a great weekend.😃

I'm not particular about what people call me. In my group there is a woman named Jeanette and people are always switching our names around, calling me Jeanette and her Janet. We both just answer and laugh about it.

I like all your faces...I especially like 16 and 17.

Oh you have a very special relationship with your SiL which is wonderful to hear.
Your paintings are amazing too and actually remind me of another famous painter that I met whilst living in Australia.
Her name is Mirka Mora if you'd like to take a peek at her work.
I never called my MiL or FiL, Mum or Dad because they weren't my Mum or Dad (I'd also lost my Dad when I was 16 years old, so couldn't call anyone else Dad)
I also couldn't call them by their names either, because I wasn't brought up that that would be okay, so I never really called her anything until my kids were born. They are Grandma and Grandad and still are, even though my kids are now 22 and 29.
Have a great weekend
xoxo

What a crazy collection of characters here, they are all so wacky and full of fun, keep up this fun art full of your authentic style and cherish those loved ones. It really is best not to get caught up and annoyed by silly things, I try to take a step back when that happens and realise it's not worth getting in a frazzle over.

LOVELY! I am so impressed with your tenancy at doing the challenge and your faces are colorful and fun! Just like you and your family - I agree it doesn't matter what you're called - as long as it's said in love, xoxo

Beautiful faces and such crazy fun colors, love them all!

My hubby calls his own mum by her first name, which is really weird for me. I call her nan Hazel as that's what the kids call her. My kids aren't married yet but I hope that they marry a man as nice as your son in law. Loved your post but love your faces even more. So bright and fun.
Have a great weekend.

I think you have a pretty awesome relationship with both Cupcake and Beardo, which I find inspiring and all sorts of cool. I kind of think it is a bit unfashionable to get on with your kids these days.... everyone wants to sort of have people to blame for things that aren't good in their lives and things, but to me I think they are all missing out on a fabulous time... having said that I can't imagine Sinus calling my parents by anything other than their first name, and I would never call his anything else either... it just works that way... not out of ownership or anything like that, just because it never ocurred to do any differently... i do like how your posts get me thinking...xx

It's sad how people make of small and quite meaningless things bad taste in the mouth.

It was fun reading your thoughts and answers you found yourself and even more I enjoyed the vivid, colorful and loving paintings you've made to go with this text!

Some really great faces, sherrie. I didn't do the 29 Faces this September. I couldn't figure out what to do with all the 58 faces I had done before. My dh loved my mother so much that even when we were engaged he called her Mama. I called his parents what he called them. It made it easier to know who we were talking about. His mom was not my cup of tea but my sweetie knew best and always favored me when we had differences.

I love the art work. . . all wonderful. Funny about nam changings, I didn't realize it until recently, but I changed my name when I started working to Jan. After I retired I went back to my real name, Janet. Go figure, no don't!!!! I think we can figure that out. I never had a job where there wasn't a bully and that's going back a very long way. Blessings, Janet PPF

I never called my husband's parents anything because they were already deceased when I met him. Interesting to think of your mother insisting on being called Mom. It must have hurt her feelings when he wouldn't. Awkward situation for everyone involved. I can't say that I blame him, tho. I wouldn't want to call anyone Mom, except my own.

You know what gets under my skin? When people see my name, Katherine, and automatically assume I want to be called Kate or Kathy, without bothering to ask me. The woman at my bank always calls me Kathy, and I cringed every time she speaks to me. I like Katherine or Katie. My family called me Kathy growing up, even though I wanted to be called Katie. I hated it..still do. It's just not me.

You're doing great with 29 faces, girl. :) My favorite is the girl with crossed eyes, black glasses, and the pink polka dot dress. :))) Love it!!

I always love your bright exuberant art but I must say, I think today is a favorite. Kaydee is especially charming. I am not particular about how people address me. It just doesn't seem to be an issue. Well, now that my son is grown and some of his friends still call me Mrs... I ask them to call me Irene. Have a lovely week.
