Joy thief, Paint Party Friday

Paint Party Friday

It hasn't been a very productive week creatively, life got in the way,  so I am sharing things I did  a while back. Beardo brought home a little functioning piano that he wants me to paint to auction off for Childrens hospital! I'll be working on that it this week!

There was a group on facebook " You know your from North Van if" I would lurk the pages reading all the shared memories of the city I was born in. It gave me a sense of great joy to see photos of old haunts I frequented in my youth. Appreciating the wise young man who snapped  so many  mundane pictures back in the day!

With such a magnitude of change over the years we  can now all enjoy those historical photos with new eyes! Memories can now be easily shared and discussed online!

People would chat about the old roller rink  that I practically lived in  as a teen. Stories about the rec center, theatres and  a quaint cafe built in the 1930's was shared there.  Anyone could read the great bits of history on that  page.
I can't tell you the thrill it was to  anonymously peek in from time to time  to see if there were any new photos, or conversations of historical  interest for me. I learned so much I never knew as a child.

Some people  have aged better than others, many successful, many very creative. Some I only  knew as acquaintances. I now realize I hung with mostly arty types even in high school.

I left the vicinity early, before I was twenty. I was raised there and have  such fond memories of the neighbourhood I passionately trekked through for years!  I love to read as others reminisce about  the people and the city!

Autumn changes are  late this year. I took this today when the sun shone for a moment during a very stormy day!
Recently, during a moment of nostalgia I went back to that page but it had been locked down.
Digital color change on autumn trees!
You have to join the page now! Someone,  decided to control it. All  the lovely photos of my childhood are blocked from sight!  I can no longer anonymously enjoy the page.

I can't send Cupcake over to look at the cool photos from  my past. To see anything one must now join the page! Ho hum.... so I was wondering what makes some people so controlling over simple things!

Not once did I see an inappropriate conversation. Rarely was anything too personal!  I did observe  an administrator complaining about one fellow  posting too many photos...but seriously this guy documented many parts of the city in different eras  just as I remember it!

I was so thrilled those photos were preserved depicting the city as it used to be! Photos I used to find boring,  are now wonderfully documented pieces of history that could never be replaced! I loved viewing them from an adult  perspective!
My brother stayed in the area a lot longer and loves bumping into old cronies.
I'm much more private, hate small talk and prefer a more simple life!
So I won't likely join, besides it would only sabotage my creative time....
it was so fun lurking on occasion while it lasted!

Have you ever come up against a control freak who put a thorn in your side,
stealing a little joy from your life?

It is fun to look back on photos from "the old days". We just closed up and sold the family home. Was full of old photos and memories. Sad to leave it behind but so comforting to know that the memories are there forever. M.x

Yes, I had to leave the control freak who was killing my spirit. I can forgive somewhat now that I have been away for 17 years. I would love some of those purple and pink trees please! I love what you do with color!

Maybe you can join, just do not talk/post? A group I was in, they made it invisible, to avoid having people trying to get in. I guess it all depends of the one that opened it... maybe someone else can open another identical?
Thanks for sharing the colorful images!

Your little dog is so cute! I guess online trolls get everywhere or perhaps the person who created the page didn't like the direction it was going in? Maybe you could still join and just not comment? I did that with a vegan page (in fact someone added me to the page without my say so! ) and i founds some of the conversations interesting but it got to the point where some folk thought others weren't 'vegan enough' like there are degrees of it instead of each person just doing the best they can. The nastiness made me leave the group. It's sadly the way of things-someone always ruins it for others. Maybe there's a website you could Google that will have similar photos of your hometown?

Love what you do with your paintings and I like the little doggie in all his colours, I hope he is smiling rather than baring his teeth.
We call these people "jobsworths" here but it may be an international word, when you ask them to do something or help you with something they say "it's more than my job's worth".

Have you ever Googled the name of your town, and then clicked on the Image button? You may find more photos there. xo

Great post, Sherrie. My kids had a piano like that but it wasn't white. I know that will be a fun project to do and will turn out great for the children's hospital auction. Sad to have the blog blocked. Someone must have put something inappropriate and it got deleted. Or maybe the emails were being hijacked or something. I wish I could find a site like that with my home town on it. What fun it would be to see the old scenes again.

Would love to see all your bright and cheerful colors splashed on that piano my friend. That was sad that someone blocked the page, especially as nothing personal or inappropriate were posted.
Hmmm, some are like that, they just find satisfaction while they succeed in stopping something as innocent as this.
Hope you have a lovely weekend

Maybe the Universe knew you needed that page to go away so it wouldn't sabotage your creative time. :) I think you are going to have great fun designing that piano! Hugs! deb

I think many people can relate to the. Over-control of some aspects of our life. Yes often they do seem ridiculous and unnecessary. What a shame to deny access to something so harmless. I am very excited by the little piano!
What are you plainning to do? I will eat and see.....

I used to be a control freak to myself, locking up joy from me, luckily that horrible creature seems to have left the building!

Love the colors of your work.

Oh, that piano is just so cute. Can't wait to see what you'll do with it! So sad some people are so controlling. But there might be a good reason why they made the group private. Why don't you send the administrator a personal message with your thoughts about it. He/she probably never even thought of it that way ....

You are so fortunate that the pictures brought back memories. My town has changed so much, I wouldn't recognize it. They even tore down a railroad overpass. Totally destroyed the look of the town in so many ways. We had 'real trees' though like you did. If the old town was like it use to be, it would be similar to Savannah. . .I did get homesick visiting there. Love the art so much. Blessings, Janet PPF

Old photos are fun and I have tons of them but mostly family. I haven't seen my hometown since I left it in 1979! I'm sure I wouldn't recognize it now.

It's sad that people think they have to have control over everything anymore. I've gone to so many sites where you have to "join" in order to see anything. I just leave. I figure they're trying to get my information for some other reason (maybe, maybe not) but I'm not giving it out.
