Certain paint tones, Paint Party Friday

First off I want to thank each and everyone of you for all the wonderful comments on my 9th blogversary last week... all your comments were beautiful and endearing. I appreciate them so much!! I feel blessed to have connected with such a supportive group of creative souls!!
Click the images for better impact!

Except for the yellow and orange I decided to play with  a few tones of colour I detest! Once completed I felt desperate to try a few colour edits hoping  better tones would appear!
Sure enough this one came close to acceptable for my  art taste, except for her green pants! Wrong, wrong, just all kinds of wrong for my liking. Haven't seen that colour tone since the flea market where little old ladies attempt to sell perfectly crocheted quilts in vintage tones of old wool found hidden in cupboards from years past! Don't get me wrong nothing excites me more than the many tones of green that appear on trees and shrubbery in  Spring. Plus many young people are all over those vintage coloured quilts. For me the wrong tones in my art makes my eyes hurt almost as much as orange against my skin can! And I LOVE orange,  I'm even considering ordering some orange dishes this week. I just can't wear it! Eww I don't like the background or the pants on the following image either!!

Some colour tones clash, yet I can really enjoy these same colours in other artists work or in some home decor. It just doesn't represent my soul which is full of many versions of vibrant pinks, purples, orange, greens and blacks! When I figure out why I'm so in love with vibrant colours I'd let you know...Maybe I'm just a  tacky character with a quirky sense of the world...lol Oops here comes that green again...ugh

I hope you all had an enjoyable Easter. Good Friday we spent at Cupcakes in-laws. Six toddlers including a set of twins and a whole whack of all ages  grandchildren were like busy bees buzzing everywhere!  One family seems noisier than all the others put together! The little ones were so fun to watch...but  I noticed the colour drain right out of the face of one middle  aged mother, whose quiet preteen daughter didn't leave her side!  I could only imagine my own face. I had a great time and  adore seeing all the adult children  with their offspring, but I was pretty tired the following two days, in fact all week.

I have always loved making digital art by just squiggling a line or two and seeing what transpires from that. The two above images appeared  from that process, along with a thought!
This one and the  following  four were created several years ago. They took a lot longer from  conception and aren't quite as crazy but oh so fun to create! I always admire those who feel confident in their  own style! My  latest characters were done quicker with more freedom.
It's all of part of my process to finding my own unique style!

I hear people have ideas that come to them in dreams, in the shower or in a vision during meditation. Often artist have an idea of what they will paint long before they lay brush to canvas! Although I often have that with a poem or words, the only time I have a fore thought of what to create is when it's for a charity event, a birthday, or for a seasonal occasion, such as Easter or Christmas.
Other than that I either lay paint or squiggle lines to find an image on the page. I have tried copying images  from photos, but I am rarely satisfied.  I get frustrated when I try to draw by hand it just doesn't seem to be my thing. Sometimes I feel I'm going backwards with this art thing!!
Do you feel confident with where your creativity is going?
How do you decide what to create? Where is your
starting point?
Do you prefer my older contrived digital pieces
or the new  looser quick quirky ones?

Too funny all those colors. I love the lady with the curls smiling ear to ear and Nature's Miracles. Both adorable. I paint the things I am interested in (nature, birds ducks) what I photograph. However, I love to watch bull-riding (addicted) so you know what's going to be coming up. I haven't been able to stand at the drawing/painting table. . .the knee yet. Blessings, Janet PPF

I love all your pieces, but it's funny how one's art evolves, I was thinking the same about my pieces nowadays too. I am much more relaxed.

Glad you had a fun Easter, interesting observations.

Your digital artwork is great. It suits your quirky style perfectly. I must be tacky too as I am a vibrant colour person like you. Not for me the tasteful pastels and muted magnolia :) I come up with ideas through either experimenting or else I have a strong vision of an image that often comes into my head when I am quiet...perhaps at night..I scribble it in my sketchbook asap as an idea for future development.

These are so much fun, even in the colors you aren't crazy about. I love how you added the quotes to them. Have a great weekend.

Isn't it interesting how we tend to use the same types of colours and shades and if we try to use others it can be difficult. I'm a bit like that with using blue.
I love both your digital and other art, if you didn't say which was which it might sometimes be difficult to know which was which, they are both so much of your fabulous distinctive style.
Love the ladies with the cookies, she is so happy with her pink clothes, pink lipstick and violet eyes.
Love your subsequent ladies too, all of them, especially the one with the purple hair in the flower meadow.
Great happy post, Giggles, I enjoyed it.
Happy painting - digital or not.
Happy PPF!

Your loose quirky style is great, always such fun, wonderful work! I usually go with my muse when creating just letting pen, paint or whatever other medium lead me, free and loose is what I love in art, so that has to be my state of mind!

I prefer bold color palettes too, but love playing with all the colors depending on my mood. I usually have an idea of what I want to do, but enjoy the serendipity method sometimes. As to your work, I believe you need to let your soul lead you. It's always beautiful, rather it's contrived or loose. Happy belated blogaversary! I'm sorry I missed it last week, but lately I've been blogging only every 2 weeks due to my work schedule. Blessings, my friend!

I love all of the paintings with vibrant colors both old and new. You definitely have a style and one that you should be proud of.

I've recently come to accept my style. It's soft colors and my paintings almost always include water. At first I really resisted this but now I realize that for now that is what I want to paint. No more trying to change who I am whether it is in my paintings or in life.

First of all a very happy blogiversary to you dear Sherrie!!! Sorry I missed last week. I love both your styles-neither of which I'd be able to do. And of course, I too LOVE lots of vibrant colors! I don't tend to worry or think so much as to where I want my art to go. There may be an idea but if it isn't flowing as I create I know it won't flow in the finished piece either. After many years I have become much more relaxed in my approach. Happy PPF!

Love them all. All are full of life. I just do it. Draw a line and whatever it leads to, I just go along with it. Lovely work. ::hugs::

I especially love the one that says: thinking positive gives me abundant hope. The image fits the saying or vice versa. I like the color scheme in the lavender and green version of the first sketch, even the pants harmonize with the other colors. I love greens too, but mostly those on the yellowish side.

Choosing color can be so complex! I have a color wheel hanging on my studio wall, and I refer to The Color Scheme Bible when I'm trying to decide which colors go well together. It's a great book..I highly recommend it.

I never know what I'm going to paint beforehand. I used to plan everything out in my head, but now..eh. I'm all about being intuitive, and in the moment.

Happy PPF! :)

Its always interesting to look back on some of our earlier art. I love it all and its fun to see how styles evolve - which was the piece that started us on a new tangent? Color is so interesting in how it makes us feel, how it interacts and converses with its neighbor colors and how it can totally change the meaning of a painting with the colors you choose. I don't remember my dreams, but my ideas will drift in during the day - so I keep a book to write them down so they don't leave as fast as they came. Great post today with lots to think about :)

I like both styles and I think both are very YOU! Although I have a slight preference for the loose quirky ones. I do like some of those colours you don't like, but for me those soft pastel colours are getting boring very fast. I prefer bright bold colours. But of course you know that ;-)

Thanks for the lovely comments. The red does have a bit of orange tone - some of that is from the antique brown paste wax. But definitely not a blue red-that would never have worked. I love those birds too - I have to think about what to do with them.

I am never confident about my artistic direction - I do have a sense of where I am going but not really confident. I know I like color and contrast - I like my paintings to feel alive.

Love all your color experiments. I really believe we all have "soul" colors - orange is definitely one of mine. There are some colors that I can't seem to work with at all. You have such a wonderful, quirky style. We don't always have to go forward - sometimes sideways is a good direction. Sometimes even backwards. Happy PPF my friend

Your art always makes me smile!!! I love the newer style you have developed but I do so love those older wilder ones you shared today too. I don't' think I have a style ... I just go with whatever I'm in the mood for at the time....sometimes changing in midstream.

Love the quote on how life is sure to get better...reading that does help. I think you have a style of your own and when combined with your meaningful words your posts are so well loved😊
Have a lovely weekend

EEEEEE!! I missed your Blog-a-versary!! ;)
These illustrations are ALL fabulous. They cracked me up - all of them. Love the one with the curly hair, and the one with the glasses on her head... and the contortionist! Hilarious. You are not only visually talented, but you are so wise with your words as well. It's always such a treat to visit here, my friend. I love your bold colours (more than the pastel ones) and i love that you experiment so much with colour. You make the world a better place. :) xx
