Appreciating the Light Paint Party Friday

Icad #11
Life has ups and downs as we all know.Sadly the dark days are not always predictable and  often difficult to get through. At the moment we think how will this every get better!! Yet it does!! The grief lightens in time and the good memories push through, blocking out the hard memories! It's human nature to want to remember the good and happy things over nastiness! It's easier on the soul!
Summer of Colour!
Unfortunately it's the dark memories that teach us the most!! The dark moments remind us just how good the light can feel. It teaches us to appreciate good health, laughter, and love in a way nothing else can! It teaches us to appreciate the here and now! Unfortunately, or is it fortunately, I got to learn those lessons young!

I have made many mistakes in my lifetime. I've been boisterous and  unforgiving at times! Now that the whole picture is laid out in front of me, I have more clarity to know some of my choices weren't always the best, but they brought me to a life of peace and  wisdom I have today! Much of which I wouldn't change.
Everything I've struggled through has made me stronger, more loving, more appreciative, more grateful, more humble and less petty! It's difficult for me to stand by and to watch any woman go through a difficult time and not want to share my wisdom of my experience!
Masculine Profile Face

These are a few things I would say to women going through a difficult divorce.

1. Keep yourself safe, it's a vulnerable time, when people are losing their family it's possible for even the nicest person to snap and become threatening!
2. Copy and send a dated sealed envelope of all your most important papers to a trusted friend or relative. You never know if you might have to bolt! Make and hide an extra set of keys too!
3.Keep a secret diary of every disturbing incident that occurs.
4.People act in ways during divorce that you can never imagine....no matter what is done to you...always stay civil... it gives you the edge!
5. Try whenever possible to be amicable...it will save you tons of money! Don't be surprised if it's impossible though!
 6. You will NEVER say," Gee I wish I'd stayed in that bad marriage longer!
Icad #10 New True Love " ART"
Things I would say to someone who lost their career.

1. There is something wonderful and different down the pike!
2 Trust that you have a vessel of internal gifts yet to be discovered and developed
3 Something new is waiting to be hatched!
4  Scale down if you must and ask yourself," what do I really NEED to be happy?" Its surprising how little that can be.
Icad #8 Art Changed my life!
Lastly what I'd say to someone facing grief

1. Give into the pain in small intervals
2. Make peace with your loss... write it out, draw it out, commemorate it some way!
3. Find a diversion and change up your routines
2. Find something new to dwell on, a hobby, a person, a home....others less fortunate!
3. Be kind to yourself. That means doing more of what you love!
4. Change some of your normal traditions for a bit
5. Get through the first year with the support of friends and family! Accept all invitations!

Very inspiring post today! It seems bad things are happening all around us, lately I am hearing of a lot of illness. But happy PPF and SOC anyway!

Great pieces today. Art changed my life too-and so amazing how something can do so much for you. Quite the philosophical post too with lots of really good advice. I think you really nailed it too when you say find a new hobby or help other people. We all need something to let our mind deal with things. What's saddest is when people who are going through something tough can't find that little saving grace. Have a great day!

Oooh, I especially like the "art changed my life" piece. Not only is the polka dot cat extra cute, but the message is spot on. Art has definitely changed my life for the better.

Although I'm here for SOC, I'm so glad you shared your ICADs, too, since I don't get to see any otherwise. You have been extremely busy, even as bad things surround you. At least we know that art heals all.

Great wisdom from your own life experiences as always. I think I've been very blessed in my life as other than the usual array of broken hearts and let downs by friends when I was younger, I've not really had the dark times that so many people face. I am an empath though so find I absorb a lot of pain from others - especially animals funny enough and it is the things that are happening to destroy our planet and the creatures on it that seem to affect me more than anything going on in my own life directly. I think that's a good thing though as if everyone felt a little of others' pain the world would be a more empathetic and kinder place, I think.

I always enjoy reading your wisdom gems. As someone who has had his share of downs and has been married to a counselor for nearly 25 years, I find your lists valid. I also thoroughly enjoyed your artwork this week, especially the boldness of Icad #11. Blessings, my friend!

Oh how I love youe colorful art, and your words as well. My experience is that when a lesson is learned life takes a turn and most things change. I know several people not willing to have a look at them selves, and the same people seem to never come pass their "problems" I see a huge difference in myself as the years have gone by,one get richer in a way. Some would perhaps call it wiser.
Thank you for your lovely comment over at my site, it really made me happy.

What an incredible post with such wise advice. Life is full of ups and downs and it is what we can learn from our own experiences and the experiences of others that will help us manage both. Knowing who you are and what is important to you helps to make life so much easier.

Sometimes just asking, "What do I need today?" helps during a difficult time. And most important not only asking the question but doing whatever it is to take care of yourself at that time makes a big difference in how you weather the storm.

love all of your colourful art, but especially your wonky woman! I've been through quite a few dark moments in my life, and although I cannot say it changed my life in a good way, I can say it changed me in a good way. It has made me stronger and at the same time more vulnerable, it made me more compassionate and open for my and someone else's feelings, I now allow myself to show the hurt and not keep it all bottled up inside. And I've discovered how art can heal .....

Hi Giggles! What wisdom and wonderful artwork to go along with it. Your advice is soooooo true. Some of us have gone through one or more in our life. My hardest was the past three years. I became disabled, had to live with friends and family and learned what "no money" and "no home of my own" is. I learned who my friends were, very quickly. I learned to be grateful, really grateful for whatever the day brought. I also learned patience, well I had no chose and there were days I did not do it very well. Your post hit home in many ways. It was the best and hardest years so far. I feel blessed for all it taught me. Hugs, Rasz #69

Thanks for some great advice. I love your artwork too. I'm not sure how much I've learnt over the years....the only thing is to keep my mouth shut more often but that doesn't work all the time! Happy PPF

One of your best blogs, Sherrie. I love it that you have acquired such wisdom that many people ten or twenty years you elder have not acquired. Your art is always colorful and insightful, but this time your words speak volumes. Thanks for commenting on the PPF page for me. I am not at the party this week. Very busy with house maintenance stuff, much of which my dh was responsible for a year and a half ago.

Such wisdom in your posts! I also think you use light not just in your life, but also in your art, very well!

Again another astonishing post. If these sets of advice were expanded they would make a marvellous self-help book, or even a magazine article and so many more people would be helped. I am going to bookmark this post for future possible "eventualities".
With so many colourful and skilful works of art I am finding it hard to chose a favourite, but that is always fun to do, so I'll have the spotted cat, the dog on the couch and "Home is Love" because of the title.

Your messages and your art. *if you think something is wonky, it probably is* and *Art changed my life* - it's GOLD Jerry, GOLD! ;) i love your cat illustration (in the art changed my life one) and it was so cool to read your bits of wisdom in point form. So much good advice there. We've ALL made mistakes my dear (and still do!) but admitting to them and trying to learn from them is a true sign of maturity. oh, i also love your *masculine profile face* guy with the punching bag.
