29 faces of September 2016

Unethical Surprises!
Septembers new banner " Summers almost done"
I'd like to thank everyone profusely for the wonderful comments last week on my featured capainting at Paint Party Friday... Your friendship and support means so much!  Again I feel so blessed to be part of such a great group of creative souls!

Face #1 Fly
As wise I can be, there are times in my life I have been naive about peoples ethics!  My mom was always more honest than my dad. Dad was slightly more willing to bend the rules knowing that life wasn't always fair! For the most part though he was a  fair, good man!
face #6 mounted in gold
I once walked in on the tail end of the  conversation of a company raffling a big ticket item. I overheard an exchange about their predetermined winner. I was more than a little shocked. To some degree the charitable deed was muddied and  fixed.  I walked away with a sour taste in my mouth and new perspective on the character of that group! I distanced myself from their parties!
face #4 waiting in the city
I was so disappointed in the person involved.  Knowing full well they could afford to buy the prize outright, while many others were being duped in a raffle proposing hope where there was none! I couldn't help but wonder how much money I'd foolishly forked out on nefariously orchestrated raffles over the years!

Recently I tried to help an acquaintance win a contest by voting for his video. Along with several other friends my family spent hours and days trying to elevate this new fathers numbers by voting frequently for a much deserved creation. There is no doubt this new father spent countless hours photographing and editing a wonderful video for a contest he had entered with a promise  he had every chance to win. A contest that could change his life for the better!!
Friends conferred back and forth as they voted his number up! Every time he surpassed his main competitor the  other guy would quickly and oddly surpass him. As we monitored the other fellow we suspected he was buying votes, about fifty at a time!! Each time we surpassed him slowly and  legitimately....he had a barrage of votes that dropped our contestant into second place within a few moments.
Face #3 shopping in the city
Close to the finish of the contest our hopeful was 300 votes ahead. It took a lot of persistence and love to get each and every vote. When we were blitzed in two minutes the other guy stole the finished with five hundred votes in one fell swoop!
Face #5 Waiting in the Country
It was shocking even though Cupcake had predicted he would jump in and steal the win! Sadly you can buy votes for contests online!  There are bots and people willing to  vote for money.  There is no doubt that's  what happened! Had we not been monitoring each vote we'd have not believed it could happen! We watched it with our own eyes! Being a local contest we knew that it  too was fixed!
Face #2 Fall
The new dad was  told the contest ended at ten. I watched the numbers, there was no action after ten. I waited a half hour,  the numbers never moved until I started voting again!! Curious to see what would happen I continued to vote, the other guy went up two and four at a time. It was as though the bot was told to make sure he is always two hundred ahead.   Sure enough as I voted the bot kept  upping. Did you know you can buy votes online?
I concluded  this man wasted  time away from his new baby and young son to try and win a contest that was never there for the winning. It was predetermined, just as then other prize had been  all those years ago!
Sadly many of us try to  to live as ethically as possible,  doing the right thing, but there is always someone more determined, willing to undermine us at any cost to fly ahead of the game without  conscience!  Thankfully there is Karma to even it all out!!

Have you ever been surprised by a persons
outright  gall to do something dishonest?

Wow, no idea that could be purchased1 But not too shocked, after all the things that can be arranged behind scenes, sadly :o(
However, I am very happy to see you in the challenge!!

I'm afraid in the meantime I'm surprised when people are honest - so many are crooked these days. Great post! Happy PPF, hugs, Valerie

shocked at this buying of votes, it sounds like politics! It makes you think twice about entering contests especially when the stakes are high. Nice art today too!

First I must make a well deserved fuss for your new banner. The first words out of my mouth, yes out loud with no one to hear them, were Wow her people are so good and such fun. I love each and every personality!!!!! You just keep topping yourself.

As for the sad story, this kind of "reality" is disheartening to say the least. No, I had no idea one could buy votes on line. I am sure this will stop me from ever voting for anything in this manner. What a shame, but something all should realize.

I love all your art faces between the sad story. They kept me reading to the bitter end. I don't like liars or cheats, and find myself becoming angrier and angrier with the daily news of late in the NEWS.
You know of what and whom I speak.

Enough to say I turn away and retreat to the peacefulness of my garden more than watching TV lately. So glad we still have nice weather to do this.

I wish you are creative week ahead, and only happy positive experiences with good hearted people.

I am no longer surprised at dishonesty as greed has taken over ... all you have to do is read the news headlines or listen to the politicians to know that there is nothing honest about what they say or promise. Life has been a big disappointment in that way. Not for me because within my family and small circle of friends (I find the older I get the pickier I am about the friends I spend time with), but for my concerns for my children and grandchildren. What will their world be like and will they be able to find happiness and be content in this world? Sadly, I have my doubts ... I enjoyed your thoughtful post, Giggles ... you are an honest observer.

No, I had no idea votes could be bought online. And I am disappointed to know that raffles are sometimes (maybe often, maybe always?) rigged. I love the banner you have up there now. Lovely faces, all. And your art this week is also fun to view. Have a wonderful weekend.

PS. I have meant to ask you what your blog name means. Do you tile floors and walls?

You know how much I love your art and today is no exception. I entered two art contests this year. In the beginning I was holding my own with honest votes. The out of the blue an entry comes up with 2,000 votes. I didn't know you could buy votes but I did look it up and you can hack votes. It is really a shame what people will go to to win. On a happier note, So glad you are doing 29 faces. Have a very nice weekend.

Sadly, this is the world in which we live today. I do not understand it and will never be a part of it. Dishonesty is dishonesty...That is one thing the nuns taught us...not to steal threat or intentionally do anything that we knew was wrong. Both of your stories are so sad. Your faces are all beautiful. You must be having a wonderful time with the project. Happy face painting in the days to come. genie

I knew about people buying youtube subs/views, and Instagram followers, but didn't know about voting. :/ I wonder how the dude is able to sleep at night knowing he cheated? Must feel GREAT! pfft!

Fun art, I especially like face #6 with the gold... I didn't know people could buy votes, but I shouldn't be surprised. I'm sorry that that happened.

Wow Sherrie, I guess I am naive too, I had no idea people would go to such lengths to win something. I have had my suspicions about some art shows, but I never realized they did this with raffles and with online contests too. Yuk, it leaves a sour taste in my mouth as well.... But your banner makes me smile :-) Love all the different characters on there! So great to see you playing with the 29 faces again!

Congratulations on your feature at PPF last week! I've been out of pocket for a couple of weeks, since I've been so busy at work. I'm exhausted by the time I get home, so haven't been blogging as much. As to your current post, I think unethical issues are more prevalent in the world, than we want to know or care to admit. I've witnessed it in the professional world a couple of times, when less qualified candidates get a position because they are connected somehow to the decision making group. It's not always what you know, but who you know that counts. That's why I always focus on self-competition to improve myself, instead of competing against others. As always, I thoroughly enjoy your bold use of color in everyone of your compositions. Blessings, my friend!

Oh yes, I've dealt with unscrupulous people. The worst are those who claim to be so righteous and aren't. I work with a woman like that and its enough to turn my stomach. But I love your art today. Shopping and the 2 waiting pieces are my favorite. Always fun to see the whimsical pieces you show us. Hugs-erika

Hi Sherrie, Love your September banner! Goodness 29 Faces around again, loves yours. I didnt know people brought votes, but I have to say I have wondered about competitions a lot, as the same people often seem to win.
I forgot to tell you I paint with wool now my latest post gives some examples.

Your ladies are fantastic. Worldly is a different life some choose. My new place is fantastic only because I was lead (kicking and screaming) to it. Yep, I'm an Okie now. . . and helping to start a new church. We never know the why, we just have to follow. My first apt. was flooded, so had to repack some of what I had unpacked and move again 2 weeks later. Not an easy move, but it is forging into new territory for me and one I guess He had planned all along. Thanks for the visit. (((hugs))) and Blessings my Friend.

I am not surprised that votes can be purchased in these contests though politicians do buy votes in one form or the other! I love your vignette portraits in between that sad story. thanks for visiting my blog and for the lovely comment.
