Struggling with what to write this week Cupcake suggested
I keep it light! She is so right. I have been trying to finish up
a few old creative projects laying around for way too long.
I thought I would post a few of my digitals.
I have approximately eighty of these done and
decided to put them into two fourty page
photo flip books at Vista Print this week.
I'll let you know how they turn out!
I'll let you know how they turn out!
The majority of them were created completely intuitively.
Even the words appear as the illustrations were
being drawn! I had about ten or so illustrations unfinished.
Some with only a few characters, others were half done,
none had words. I found them all difficult to complete
once I broke my creative momentum. Especially after
leaving them so long.
once I broke my creative momentum. Especially after
leaving them so long.
Truthfully, some of the images I abandoned because
I really didn't like them. Revisiting that second
one was hard. I struggled with the words. I thought
it was complete so I uploaded it for the flipbook.
During the edit I took it down and reworded it
completely different! Which doesn't normally
happen when I work on a piece in it's entirety!

Yes the Characters are quirky and unpredictable.
Anyone that knows me knows I would NEVER
tolerate wonky ugly font like this. I decided when
I first started them to let go and embrace the process
instead of trying to control it! Even then I considered
going back and redoing all the font. I found writing
it out was like a puzzle imperative to the process.
This pink one I didn't like at all, but Cupcake
loved her. So I added it to make up fourty pages for
the second book. Since they are created for her to one
day use as a spring board to conversations with children!

The last one is an old one I actually revised in light of
the events of this week... and just finding out
that the dear Leonard Cohen has passed away.
I have always loved his music, and I continue to
enjoy a second generation of his tunes as my kids
have attended his concerts and love him too!
In 2012 Pauline Leger did a gorgeous illustration
of Leonard that I just love, you can find it here!
I hope you all find some peace and joy in the week ahead!
Sending love and light out to those who need healing!

Lots of wonderful work, glad you have printed them. Sorry to hear about Leonard Cohen, his songs are so wonderful. Happy PPF, hugs, Valerie
very fun digitals, in your vibrant colourful style as usual! You know the art co-ops spur my creativity, give me an incentive to have some art to post!
Thank you for your delightful and light post, Sherrie. My brain is overworked already and I didn't want to have to think deep thoughts here after midnight. Love the squares. They would make a great book. I just learned of Leonard Cohen's death this evening.
What joyful and clever art and words. Love all them and the last one is perfect today when the sad news about a great poet and singer announced. Thank you for the link.
Answer to your questions is: yes I did.
Have a great weekend ❤
Lovely happy imagery. They would look good in a book. Sorry about Leonard Cohen. I used to listen to him a lot in the eighties.
Such striking imagery, the colours really pop and sing out
Hugs

Fabulous digital painted art ! Always amazing to see your pieces - hope the book will turn out as you want it to be!
Sorry about Leonard Cohens dead!

beautiful!!!! I love how you use color!!!
That was an great idea making Vista Print books. I love putting art and photos into books. Always make it seem more professional that way! The new header is perfect for the oncoming winter too. Not that I am ready for winter yet though. Happy PPF and have a wonderful weekend.Hugs-Erika
These have such a sweetness to them! I love the sentiments expressed.
Oh your creations are wonderful and so delightful! Love them ~
Yes, I always seem to be fumbling over my art ~ I need to let go and set it free ~
Wishing you a happy weekend ~ ^_^
Wonderful collection of vibrant work. Show us when you get them printed. Have a good weekend.
I am beyond thrilled that you are having your fabulous art printed to preserve, to have , and to hold! I LOVE your wonky lettering and think it would make such a great font for those like me who can't come up with lettering so creative. Listen to Cupcake. She is right about keeping the pink one in. She's a great editor:)
Happy PPF and wishing you a wonderful weekend!
oh my goodness I love all of these . I love the idea of the flip book !!! thank you for stopping by my blog very much appreciated .
hugs xoxoxox
Live these digital and your wise words
Happy you dropped by my blog this week
Much love...
I think your flip book is so much fun and it will be wonderful for your grandkids to look at. I have been critical of my art over the years. But it is also easy if we make a mistake to just scan it and erase on Photoshop!
I love this
I love this idea and I love the art! Can't wait to see the finished product!
Super work
love your pieces. You have a very unique style. Not sure I would have tham on my wall. They would not look good among my own ones. But a book would be nice. :)
I love these so SO much!!! (I would love to see a video of you flipping through them.) I'm so glad you left the hand lettering because it adds so much to each one... Fantastic!
I love your style and your lettering is perfect. Make that book! That is a super idea and these belong together. Happy PPF
Your pieces are just wonderful!! I really like the font and how you colored in the curly spots! It is so uplifting to see what you have done! Love the last one with the girl curled up with her dog, taking comfort!
Oh Sherrie, I am so in love with these digital drawings of yours. I love the weird positions of the bodies, and the strong colours, and the words that fit so well. This week of course, the last one is my favorite. Sums up beautifully my feelings this week with all that's been happening .... Hugs, Denise
Adorable little doggy drawings and the last one is perfect. Thanks for sharing it.
Just think of one day knowing your grandchildren will be enjoying your art in a book just for them. That's fantastic! Your art is bright, happy and just what I need today.
These are so adorable - especially those with animals 💕 The font is peculiar but it completes your work brilliantly - good choice!
Oh I love all of this art but my favorite is "Point of View" She is perfect.
Do I ever fight with my creative process? Haha! - All The Time, Every Single Piece.
Funny how sometimes we don't like something at all but another person (Cupcake here) can love it.
The white bird in the middle of the second is interesting, and these faces are terrific, I like the turquoise and pink striped hair of one of the girls.
Some thoughtful advice here, I love the turquoise background of the fourth and both the words and picture.
How marvellous to have these in books, a great idea.
Great messages, and so true all of them. I fight all the time to hold on to my creative spirit. Trying not to let go of it again...
Hi Sherrie,
These are absolutely fabulous! I love the vibrant colors, the quirky figures, and having to try to read upside down made me chuckle! Have a wonderful week.
oh gentle jesus... do i need healing. ;)
I've been trying to distract myself with anything this week - i find myself sometimes walking around the house like a zombie - not sure of what i should do next. Last week was so heavy - with the US election results and yes, the death of our dear Leonard Cohen and to top it all off - Remembrance Day. It's a global sadness. My heart still doesn't know how to feel. BUT - as my son likes to remind me: It is always darkest before the dawn. I trust (hope?) there are better days ahead. What a great idea to make books with these illustrations! i love them all. Big hugs to you my friend. xx
ps: THANK YOU for the mention re: Leonard Cohen. So kind of you Sherrie... xox
Your book pages are delightfully illustrated and filled with abundant wisdom in your words. Cupcake will treasure the books that are bound to become a family heirloom. Blessings, my friend!
I guess a change of scene (big move) changes the artwork too. Thanks for the comments. This is a wonderful way to get your art work out there. . .print in booklet form. They are words of wisdom that is needed and referred to often. I love the dog and the (ladybug?) my two faves. Of course I wouldn't pass up a bison/buffalo either. Thank you and Blessings, Janet
I think you did a great job! Revisiting old work is difficult. I spent all summer revising older portraits, and some newer florals, also. I spent a lot of time either shaking or scratching my head..I kept wondering, now what the heck was I thinking with this one??!! HAha!! Can't wait to see how the book comes out. :) It's gonna be fab!! xo
LOVE your vibrant art! I'm totally with you. The world needs more love and understanding... and yes I do fight with my creative process. Sometimes things "work out" they way you want them and other times nothing seems to fit in at all. Creativity is not always there where you want it to be.
Love, creativity and happiness to you ♥
Michelle
Love the art you have struggled with this week. I know that feeling oh so well. Have it put into a flip book is a fantastic idea ♥ I just may have to borrow that idea for some Christmas gifts. The death of Leonard Cohen was heartbreaking . His music has touched so many for so long. I'm so late getting around to my friends and was concerned when I didn't see a new post from you this week. Hoping all is well. PEACE ♥
LOVE your wonderful style!!! The flip book is pure delight!!!
