Emotions
bubble up with each festive sound and smell. Decades
of special memories flitting in and out as the season evolves.
Although the body
has aged, the mind presents those
feelings of yesteryear in a well
preserved package.
Memory 1
As it snows I'm reminded of the teen years sneaking out early
mornings to deliver papers with an old boyfriend. Holding hands,
stealing kisses along the way! Giggling with joy as he carried me
over puddles! Returning home a few hours before anyone
awoke, washing my hair so snow drenched locks wouldn't
be detected. No one ever the wiser!
Family Room tree filled with childhood memories! |
Memory 2
Blinded by white out conditions turning our hour
commute as a young married couple, into two.
Arriving home to find frozen pipes in our abode!!
Loading snow in the tub to use as water, accidentally
leaving the taps open overnight, finding flooded
floors in the morning!
A Christmas Magnet for my niece of her sweet dog. |
Memory 3
From early childhood, baking my Nana's shortbreads
with mom on her Birthday, December 18th,
while Dad put up the Christmas tree!

Memory 4
It's not easy to forget the year we had so many pink lights
on our house and bushes that we tripped the breaker
Lampoon Christmas Vacation style! The
next year our neighbour added the hard to find pink
lights to his regular blue ones making for a very
matchy matchy street!

Memory 5
Neighbours banding together to push my jeep
out of the knee high deep snow. Hopping on a
neighbours ski-doo as he buzzed me all around
the snowy neighbourhood, giggling like a school girl!
Memory 6
As a child eating Purdys chocolate while opening
Christmas gifts, while mom and dad drank
coffee spiked with liqueur. I kept that tradition
for fourty years. Only now we don't exchange gifts,
I rarely spike my coffee... Still we eat purdys
chocolate with coffee every Christmas morning
while watching a Christmas movie.
Memory 7
Cupcake was a child, it was our very first
Christmas dinner alone as a family of three.
We usually had family or friends around.
Just as we sat down to eat it started to snow
very hard and Bing Crosbys White
Christmas came on the radio capturing
a unforgettable perfect moment!
The table center piece was a musical
snow globe I got that Christmas!
Memory 8
One year much to my then husbands chagrin he
bought me a microwave for Christmas. It was
eleven hundred dollars...can you believe that?
They are so cheap and such a necessity now.
Makes me laugh at that price! I was over the moon
excited about it! I have to admit it made life a
lot easier! I imagine people will be laughing
about the price of cell phones one day too!
about the price of cell phones one day too!
Memory 9
Favorite Christmas gift ever was a big chunky gold
ring with a few diamonds. I loved and wore that
ring with pride for years and years until
my divorce. Where I traded wearing gold
for silver. I still love big rings but prefer
coloured stones instead!

The moral of my memories are. You live and learn.
Tough times give you more appreciation for the good times!
Comedy club 2016 Christmas |
What you yearn for so badly eventually passes or becomes antiquated.
Things you lived without for years can become a future necessities.
Gleeful moments can be born in an unexpected situation if you
embrace the moment and take a chance!
You don't need as much as you think you do!
What you loved yesterday you may easily
dislike tomorrow!
Digital card for my Niece and fiance! She was done 7 years ago, changed her hat. |
Good memories trump bad memories
if you let them!
I didn't send Greeting Cards this year, instead donated
towards a family whose 8 year old is fighting cancer
and won't be home for Christmas!
Wishing you all Peaceful moments,
snippets of joy, good food,
good health, and good people
in your midst!
Enjoy!
Enjoy!

Wishing you and your lovelies a happy, peaceful Christmas and the New Year xxx
Lovely post, Happy Christmas to you and yours, hugs, Valerie
such a gorgeous post! It was a joy to read thru your holiday memories as well as see the decorations and fabulous art. Love the banner! Thank you for a wonderful year of brilliant art and thoughtful words. Wishing you and yours a beautiful holiday season. XO
Wonderful memories, love that digital card at the end! My favourite memories come from childhood, the wonder of the season the smell of the christmas tree and the sight of the pretty decorations.
I love all your shared memories and colorful art! I love how you share your life with others here and in "real life" too!
A Christmas memory for me was going across the street to Patty's house, my best friend all my life, seeing her floor to ceiling heavily decorated Christmas tree and ALL the presents under it, a huge department store array of things, and being a little Jewish non-Christmas girl bright green with envy!!! Oh how jealous I felt if that abundance!
Later in life Patty and I celebrated her Christmas and my Chanukah together just the two of us and bought each other a pile of gifts and ate sweet treats and laughed and reminiscied together! I miss Patty all the time but especially at this time of year!
Enjoy your special day ! I'll be with my kids and they, both Jewish, have a Christmas tree, not to be outdone or jealous, so it will be like being at Pattys house when I was little!
My gift to you will be to keep blogging because I can't imagine breaking your heart! ššš

Merry Christmas; wishing you more beautiful memories
much love...
Happy Happy Happy Christmas to you and your family. I love reading your memories. One funny one for me, funny now, is that I wanted a horse sooooooo badly. We lived in the country so I we had the room. Christmas came and there was a big wooden crate with, what I thought was hay, sticking out of the cracks. I KNEW I would open it and carry the hay out to my horse. You will never know the disappointment when the hay was excelsior and there was a life size doll in the box. I was very much the tomboy so a doll, and no horse was so upsetting. LOL. Life is a journey and we do have some say so in what path we take. Hugs N
I wish I had made your header - the colourful Christmas trees against the black make such a stunning picture.
What a fascinating story of Christmases past, and I always like to see the photos of your family.
Interesting comments about not needing as much as we think we need but at the same time needing things we certainly didn't have before, both so true.
I remember long ago being given a bicycle, immediately riding away on it and getting totally lost, on Christmas morning. There were no mobile phones then, which are one of the necessities now.
Have a great Christmas, and the best ever year in 2017.
thanks for sharing your memories. Love to learn of how you sneaked out with a boyfriend in the night .)
May this christmas give you another good memory.
Oh I love your art ~ the trees and the dogs ~ you are a wonderful colorist with your art and sharing your warm memories with you ~ so delightful ~ wonderful post and art ~
Wishing you a Happy Christmas ~ ^_^
I find I am having to make new memories because the triggers for the old ones aren't there anymore. When you move from the northern to the southern hemisphere, Christmas becomes all topsy-turvey. There is no smell of turkey in the morning because it has been cooking all night. It's just too darn hot to do that! The days aren't short and dark. You can't appreciate Christmas lights and candles until about 10p.m. Come July, I'm ready for Christmas :)
Have a good one.
What a lovely post! I enjoyed reading your Christmas memories. And you are right - we don't always need as much as we think we do. Merry Christmas Sherrie!
Christmas memories are wonderful especially when we keep making new memories. Happy Christmas to you Giggles.

Thanks for sharing all your special memories. It lets me feel as though I know you a little bit more each time I read them.
I didn't send out cards either but my reason wasn't as giving as yours. I just got too busy and forgot until it was too late!
Merry Christmas my dear friend. I hope you never run out of memories to share with us.
Love your beautiful photos, my dear friend -- happy holidays :)
Wow! This post is so chock full of beautiful memories, sentiments, and images! I love that you donated money instead of sending cards... What a wonderful thing to do. I hope you made more beautiful memories this Christmas, and that you have a very happy & healthy new year!
p.s. $1,100 for a microwave?!? Whoa!
A super post, Sherrie! Your memory seems more specific than mine, although I do remember a few unusual Christmases. I really enjoyed reading your thoughts and wise remarks.
