Neighbors, Too Close for Comfort

I am not exactly the neighborly type, mostly like to keep to myself. I was taught at a young age to be very careful with neighbors, never gossip because it could turn into sour grapes. That did occur in a few places I lived, feuding ensued among neighbors. Thankfully I was very cautious. Some neighbors along the way turned out to be great friends, but we were careful not to invade each others space. Other neighbors I had to set boundaries with. One woman in particular, constantly demanded to know what I was doing every day off. That relationship soon waned. In the seventies I confronted a neighbor who left his dog tied up while on holidays. I called authorities, feeling no remorse, he knew it was me! Neighbors and relatives you can’t choose, so it’s imperative to foster peace with them. I prefer to ship my friends in and avoid petty neighborhood grievances. Maybe I’m a little colder in my old age, but I really prefer a phone call, to an unannounced knock at the door! Probably because I value my time so much! Whoa this is a side of me you don't see very often!

Wow! You sound like me sometimes. I really don't mingle with the young ladies who stay home all day and still find time to complain about doing housework. Luckily, I work far away, so I never hardly have time to chat with them. Good work!

Great post! Gossip can always turn into sour grapes. You are soo right! This is why I don't do that either. I mainly keep to myself.
Anyhoo, great post!

You are a woman after my own heart! I am a loner and a dog person. I prefer the company of dogs!

Great work. Love the 2nd one with the bold primary colors and apathetic looks all around on the fruit. Interesting and eye-catching.

Great art, as ever! I share some of the same feelings that you wrote about. However, I do wish my friends weren't scattered so far and away! Peace & love, deb

NOT that you're cold... but about personal time being precious and sacred...it's all about respect :)

I like my privacy and usually don't get too chummy with neighbors but I have also had (and have) some very helpful neighbors. I guess it just depends on the circumstances.

Love the "Too Close for Comfort" drawing!

I am also not very good at wanting to be overly friendly with neighbors because of past experience. Our neighbors were not really the type one would want to drop in for tea with, lol! And I remember my grandma was always having fights with hers. Always being crazy and calling the cops on one another. So silly! One time they kept her cat locked in their house for a week, and wouldn't admit they had him, so somehow she killed all their rose bushes! Nuts, I say! So yeah. I smile and wave and try to keep to myself.
