The Promise
Acrylic done on canvas paper
Writers Island Prompt "Promise"
The Promise
A promise tied in blood
Honoring
The nurture of our mother
The wisdom of our father
Who encouraged
Camaraderie
Compassion,
Unconditional love
Bonding a brother
And sister
In times of sorrow
Blunder and Ire
Passionately
We preserve
The legacy
Of the lovers
Upholding
Our family
Constitution
With devotion
To each other
And our progeny
Preserving tradition
Intimate conversation
Respect for individuality
Diverse solutions
During tribulations
While salvaging memories
We are reminded
Of the importance
Of protecting that bond
With reverence
The promise
Of love forever
No matter who
No matter what
Lives on

and i am jealous that you have that... after all isn't that what a family is supposed to be??? this was lovely...
I like everything about this. The painting is just the right accompaniment to your poem. Your words are so true and so meaningful.
Oh, I love the last line of promise live on and the lack of ending in those words. Promises floating forever, landing where they will. Yum!
Pure joy. What an ideal world you seem to be writing about. If it's yours then I envy you.
I'm glad you've found the promise of family. Hope all is well with you.
beautiful post and work...blessings, rebecca
One of the best things a parent can do is to ensure strong ties between siblings.. Your parents were wonderful.. they got that message across and you and your brother are better because of it. Truly loving tribute to him and of course to your parents Sherrie. Absolutely moving xox
Thanks for your comment on my poem on ReadWriterPoem. I love Scrabble but haven't gone to that site yet, but will soon! Mostly I've been playing Literati on yahoo games.
I like this poem, too!
Without family, where would we be? I've often wondered how each member can be so different and still come from the same nest. The promise is what counts! Nice post!
Very powerful piece, and one to be heeded by all... love the image! ;)
