Paint party friday Reckless Abandon

You  can find a wonderful group of art blogs on this wonderful site!!

It's been hot and my sleep is pretty off kilter! I'm
late for summer of color  but I finally got it done!!

Reckless Abandon
Done with red and copper acrylics

This is my final piece for Summer of Color watermelon ice-cream was the prompt!
A  big thank -you goes out to Kristin who hosted this really fun summer affair!
I met some wonderful new friends and really enjoyed all the vibrant art that came out of each  color suggestion!! Everyone was so inspirational!!

When I was at Micheal's this week scooping up some deals l waited behind a young couple at the check stand. The male pushed a large buggy, while the embarrassed mom tried to  deviated her young daughter from a trinket she spied. The little girl badgered her mom, whining and fussing, when that didn't work, she tried a fake cry  while  the mom walked ahead.... Poor mom was so frustrated and tired, I suspect it was a fairly new baby in the buggy.

The dad had a nice nature, they tried to quietly calm their demanding daughter, hoping to tame her momentary nonsense. But the little girl only ramped it up even more! The mom bravely took a stand threatening to put back the few dollar craft items she had in her red basket! I was silently rooting the mom on.

The four year old, (at least I suspect she was four because that's how I remember them acting, terrible)  carried on even more knowing her mom was attempting to  put the other things back, explaining it wasn't worth waiting in the long line for a few things if she continued to cry!
I shot the mom a sympathetic smile, and lightly chatted with the couple to relieve their embarrassment! I assured them we've all been through it!  Not to worry, they were doing a great job! I often see older women tsk tsking young people. It's so mean, and rude! They were attentive parents, their daughter was well kept and adorable despite her attempts to gain power over them! I believe we should support young parents, it's a  vulnerable time.

I used to threaten to embarrass my  daughter if she embarrassed me. I was a mom of my word. When she was a teen I could be known to hang my head out my jeep window singing, or yelling something crazy  on the drive to school if she got  too mouthy!  Kind of glad all those days are past!! Not sure I'd have the gumption now to be that crazy...but hey it worked!! Right cupcake?

 Molly and Polly

That's all for now folks, art on!! I'm going to try and muster up the determination of a four year old  to accomplish something really productive this week!!

I used humor to correct my child's behavior, how about you how did you or do you get positive behavior out of children?

Very interesting post. Your pieces are just divine. Love all the color. As for children who don't behave out in public and cry on an on wanting things, would you believe I never had that problem. A simple NO was enough, plus the fact that saying, "we can't afford it right now," always helped. Again, your work is awesome. Happy PPF!

Bravo for being a "good parent advocate!" great support. Loved your way with your teen daughter. I remember feeling invisable around mine. Not seen! Oy, glad that's past too.

Your colorful art added much levity to your serious post!
Especially the dog sticking out his tongue!

Loved how you used color for mood. Blessings, Janet PPF

Beautiful colors. I love your story. My children have caused me so much grief in public; it's really heartening to know some are so understanding.

good on you for offering them support... it is awful watching people make a difficult situation even harder and we have all been there... and I am so with you on the embarrassment as payback parenting method... works a treat...
oh and I love your piece this week... the red in the top one is zinging...xx

I think it's great that you took the time to be supportive of those parents, I'm sure they appreciated it!

I love the coppers in the first piece and the flowers in Molly and Polly are oh so sweet.

The colors on the art are beautiful. As for the kids misbehaving in public, I don't have children, but I remember my parents telling me before I left what was allowed and what wasn't. That was enough. Besides, we didn't have a lot of money, so I knew not to ask for things.

Love your artwork! So colorful and fun! My kids normally don't misbehave in a store..they know I'll embarrass them more than they could ever embarrass me. :)

So much glorious colour!! I always try to say something kindly when I see a mum or dad struggling with a young one, so they have a bit of support and also don't think that everyone is judging them.

Love the way the different colours 'change' the feel of the piece. Great. And I agree, it is much harder for young people these days than when I was young. So give them some help not criticism!

Lovely art and a good story line about the child. Glad those days are past for me, too.

What a riot of color you have this week. Polly is my favorite! I always feel bad for young moms trying their best to shush a misbehaving child, but I also applaud them for trying. Kids are smart and will try anything until they determine it doesn't work. Once, my son's friend was at our house and was trying to wheedle and whine me into changing my mind about something I'd told them no about. My son looked at him and said, "That doesn't work with my mom." LOL, they do learn!

I always get a "color fix" when I come here. You are the Color Queen!

It's been so long ago I barely remember what I did as a young mother! But both of my kids turned out good so I guess I did something right!

I usually gave warnings before we entered stores how they were expected to behave. If acting up started I would leave and they would have a consequence. (ie: having to sit on their bed and think about what they did).
Just saying they won't watch the T.V. or a toy would be taken away for an evening was usually enough.

I like your fun and colorful paintings.

Lol at the car stories. Like Melisa said, my kids learnt real soon both that they didn´t get anything by whining and when there could be some negotiation & they could try the super sweet way to win me over. ;)
Super cute doggie and cheerful Molly & Polly.

nice job on your summer of colour piece!

My biggest thing with my kids was making sure they knew that I meant what I said. I tried to pick my battles, but when I made a threat (ie promise of consequences) I made sure I followed thru on it. Which made for some interesting situations...

Love all the color and whimsy in your work! So fun. Good on you for being nice to the family with the child acting out, I'm sure they appreciated it! I have four young children and sometimes chaos reigns supreme.

I love all of your colorful work. As I scroll through, each one becomes my new favorite. I guess I just love them all.

I bet the young parents really appreciated your attitude. I don't think there is anything worse than having a hard time with a young child and the people around being unkind.

Love, love, love all your colors changes, and really enjoyed how you intertwined your comments with the art work. It felt like we were with you in the store and picking up some art and walking and discussing the little four year old! Great post!
