Never ask!

Paint Party Friday

Mr. Inquisitive!

Seriously my creative mojo has left the building. Ever since
several boring  birds have been coming out, or should I  say
presenting themselves!!! I am in a wondering
mood these days.
I've been wondering!!!
Why the  photographer often gets left out of celebratory photos!!
I was sad to see a slew of joyous Christmas photos,
taken by a relative,  not one included  the young mom
and her family! It could well be one of their most memorable
holidays at a snowy cabin without a photo of mom in it!
Look around and make sure all family members are included.
You just never know how important that one photo might be to the
family one day! I can't stress the importance of that enough.
It's one of my life regrets. Not enough good photos of my parents.
I've been wondering!!!
Why some family members don't  dig in more?
There always seem to be people who do it all and the
ones who do nothing!!  I used to be the first to hop up and
help, and now Cupcake is!! I am unable to help like I used to
and it took a lot of talking to  myself to alleviate the guilt of that!
I still don't understand how  able bodied young people can
walk out of a persons house in the late evening,  with every
counter top layered in dishes  expecting one woman
in her late sixties  to do it all before bed!
Harpie Original!
When someone is  kind enough to host a huge family
affair, shouldn't others at least help with the clean up?
Especially when the woman is preparing the
dinner for thirty  the following day too?
Never ask an older person if they need help, just dig in!
Be a willing helper! You just never know when you may need
help yourself one day!!  I can attest to that!

I never forced my daughter to do a lot of chores as a
child because I was  inundated with so many myself!
I wanted her to focus on school, and fun. Which she did.
She worked at a young age too! Willingly she
pitched in and helped, never worrying about praise!
Thankfully children learn what they live!! She saw me as
a willing helper and became one herself!

Cupcake feels frustrated with her own generation
as they expect everyone to do so much for them,
without reciprocity!
There is a time to pass the torch to the younger
generation. I wonder how many will take it when
they realize what it entails!

For the most part I have always been surrounded
by wonderful kind helpers. It always made life
easier and pleasant to have company! I don't
think anyone has ever come to my house empty
handed or without helping hands! I feel blessed
by that!

Are you surrounded by helpers?
Does it frustrate you to see others
 taken advantage of?

Beautiful birds in your paintings. Their eyes are so fetching :D)
When our family gets together everyone pitches in - oh gosh it makes it so much easier. I could imagine how frustrating it must be for those times you describe.
Happy PPF!

I'm sorry to hear your mojo has left the building - I think it's the time of year - things are always a bit flat in January.

I know what you mean about people not getting the photos - that the beauty of selfies and camera timers - there should be no excuse for anyone to be left out!

When I go home to visit my parents I practically have to wrestle the dish cloth out of my dad's hand - he always does the dishes after a meal and doesn't like to have anyone else do them!! My parents still do too much for me when I visit and I have to remember not to turn into a lazy teenager but they seem to thrive on hosting!!

Wishing you a happy new year, Giggles. xx

I love your birds-even though they do look a bit down. I guess they are looking for their mojo too:) Both my hubby and I help out wherever we go and I know it is much appreciated by the hosts at the end of the day. Happy PPF!

I like your bird, it is creative it doesn't seem like you've lost your mojo.

Sad to hear about the mojo though I am sure it will be back! I love your birds!

I'm a helper and feel annoyed with the same people sitting out the chores. Happens every holiday. I say something though... kindly but I say it. It usually works! :)

Your post had a little melancholy feel to it today and those birds although beautiful look a little sad Giggles. Maybe it's because your mojo has disappeared or it could possibly be that it's something to do with this time of year.
I know exactly what you mean about helpers. We visited my sister for Christmas and thankfully I'm now her helpful elf, but it's taken me years of chipping away at her to let go of the reigns. We now share the Christmas preparations.
My hubby is a great help now with the clearing up. My son gets involved too thankfully but I know exactly what you're saying with handing over the baton. I see some families and I have to grit my teeth seeing a Mum running everything and the younger kids lapping it up! Mind due she wouldn't have it any other way :/
I hope your mojo returns soon. Take care xoxo
p.s. what about a photo of you???? ;D

I dislike hearing your mojo has left the building. However, with you love of art it is just taking a break. I know, for me visiting PPF artists helps to inspire me. I am the giver, the helper, the one who is in charge ALL the time. It is difficult for me to ask for help and people see me as the "strong one" so never offer. It is the way it is. Sending you artful energy.

Boy are you speaking to me this morning. As for the pictures ... I am the family picture taker to the extent that they all cringe when I bring the camera out. That means, of course, that I am not in the family pictures and I really don't mind because I don't usually like how I look in pictures. That said, I get a lot of pictures of myself with my friends when I travel, so down the road my family will have plenty to look at.

As for helpful family ... I too am blessed with children who help or try to help whenever they can, but I am experiencing a friend who is being bullied by her children to do for them. It is so sad and I feel terrible for her ... she is trying to take a stand and all of us who know her are backing her on it. Life can be cruel. So you are, as usual, right on today, Giggle ... look forward to next week which will fly by just as you said.

Maybe it is the time of year, after all the fun and games of the Holidays. My mojo is taking a vacation as well.
I must say Mr Inquisitive is your bright self. Happy PPF. See you next week and who knows? Maybe we will be back on track again.

I do like your birds, even though they look a bit sad. Hope your mojo gets back soon, I know how frustrating it is when it leaves. Very recognizable what you're writing this week. I'm the photographer in the house so there are hardly any pictures of me. After I told my kids they won't have any pics of me to show their children my son started making pictures whenever he sees the camera. I've noticed now that I really don't like being on pictures, so I'm kinda sorry I mentioned it at all ;-) What you're saying about never asking whether someone needs help but just digging in: that's so true. So often people just offer help because it's the right thing to do, almost expecting the other person to say it's not necessary. In my opinion the real helpers are the ones that just take the dishcloth and start cleaning.

Your poor little birdies seem so sad! I am blessed to have children in the area who not only always bring part of the meal, but help clear the table and carry things where I want them for clean-up the next day. They offer to stay and help do the dishes, but I am not a night person. I get up around 6 or 7 and love doing dishes by hand in the warm sudsy water. I take my time and wash a batch, them dry a batch. I am in my 70's and stairs are the things that are hard for me. My son, and grandson make quick work of taking boxes of things to the basement for me. I hope you feel better about the world soon! It could be the gloomy cold weather-turn on all the lights!

Sometimes the painting mojo does stay away for a while. It's true in my life. I read this from your blog: :"Cupcake feels frustrated with her own generation as they expect everyone to do so much for them, without reciprocity!"

This is so true, but I think it gets even worse with those younger than Cupcake. I have just had a time of listening (I tried to keep my mouth shut) to my 18 yo step granddaughter. That age expects life on a platter served to them with ice cream. I knew she was not able to listen and really hear so I didn't offer many comments. She is such a sweet, loving girl, but going in a direction I wish she wouldn't.

I like your colorful little bird.

I'm lucky to have family that always jump right up and help... my side of the family that is. The husbands side is another story. They all set and watch me work alone now that my mother-on-law is gone. So after Christmas dinner this year I announced loudly that I hoped they enjoyed the meal because it was the last holiday meal I was cooking. If they wanted a special meal next time they had better order one ahead from someplace else. I meant it and will stick to my guns. I've had it. So next Christmas we will probably be eating at the Casino Buffet LOL and then Christmas day with my family where everyone helps. Love the birds ♥

BrownPaperBunny said...

My mother has always refused to be in photos, and with her first grandchild on the way I think that's really sad. So over the Christmas holidays I took lots of candid photos of her without her knowledge (sneaky I know) but I got some really good ones of her playing cards with her sister, or chatting with my cousins etc.

I've heard a lot of people saying they feel creatively uninspired right now (myself included). I'm putting it down to the start of the new year and the holidays being over. It will come back!

I like the muted paintings with the down looking bird, they reflect the darkness this time of the year...if your living at the Northern Hemisphere. Great post too, I'm a born helper.

Gorgeous colors today. :) I'm always the one hassling everyone for the photos. There wouldn't be any picture is if it wasn't for me. :)

Wonderful, rich color!! That is the way of life - a few are helper bees, and many are not! I am lucky to have family that all help at gatherings. Everyone brings a dish, and we all make sure things are tidy before leaving. I still host most of the events, but my two married kids with homes of their own are jumping right in! Happy PPF and have a fabulous, creative week :)

I think you have alot of mojo going on, loving your lady and your funky birds

Tracy said...

I've always been one of those who just digs in. I read something once that talked about seeing paper towels on the floor in a bathroom. There are those who just pick them up and pop them in the bin, and there are those who go looking for the person whose job it is to tidy the bathroom! I mean, really, which is easier?

I am always the photographer at gatherings, since that's my thing. However, I do try to get in at least one photo of me sometimes, especially if my daughters are there, since they're good photographers too. At parties, I always help clear out the table and put furniture back to where it belongs. Don't give up on your mojo, just do art, and it will come. Blessings, my friend!

I think your birds are lovely even if they are a little melancholy.

I totally get what you're saying — the photographer always seems to miss out on being in the photos. Those selfie sticks are a great idea because it allows everyone, including the one taking the photo, to get in the picture.

Yes, people should have offered to help for sure. I used to have a lot of family gatherings here and I would be in the kitchen doing the food prep a lot to the time. I would do all the clean up too. To be fair, I did get offers of help but I refused as I was more focused on them relaxing and having a good time. In saying that, I would feel so exhausted after everyone left. When my daughter and her husband bought their own home, they took over having family gatherings at their place and, secretly, I was very relieved.

Both your pieces are fun to see. I don't see the birds as boring. The little owl makes me smile.

Sorry to hear that you were left with a mess. Maybe suggest the gathering be at their place next time. ;-)

Good to catch up here too. I can so imagine how you would have all enjoyed that snow you had. I love to see the trees covered in snow and great to catch up with your original art work full of giggles style, I love your birds and that lady with the cosy knitted jumper looks nice and snug! I'm surrounded with helpers at hand when needed, my parents are precious to me, especially now with bugs going around in our home and Alex away, so good to know they are nearby!

I am the "baby" of my family and everyone found it easier to do the work themselves rather than try to coax my help. Meanwhile I learned to be the entertainer while everyone else washed dishes. He, he, he...
Do I love your art on this page? Yes, yes I do!

NatureFootstep said...

an important post think. No helpers around me yet (I´m 71) and I am happy as long as don´t need any. In that department my country is downhill and "help " is often no help at all. :(

Hope your art will have a little uphill soon.

The little owl balancing on the branch looks like he is trying to cheer up Grumpy Bird.
Sometime it's just good to have a break, you've been making so much original art over the years, and I'm sure you will do the same in the future.
Having said that, I really like your birds and the lady, and the way you use paint and colour.
