Paint Party Friday....what is it worth?

Done for Paint Party Friday this Crazy mother and child
was first sketched, then put into the microsoft paint program.
I digitally cut out the mosaic style pieces and added color!
Then digitally altered the colors in photobucket!
It was relaxing during a fairly stressful week!
It's kind of quirky, like me

From the time my daughter was ten I raised her on my own with one hundred and eighty dollars a month custody payment. That is approximately five dollars and ninety one cents a day! Certainly not enough to feed her daily, let alone keep a roof over her head! On her nineteenth birthday it stopped completely. By law it should have been more. I  never pursued it, knowing  lawyers would eat up anything I gained. Never in a million years did I think that would happen to me or her!! It was less than a car payment!
I asked myself how much it  was worth to have her under my roof every day.....there was no monetary value to that.....it was more than I could ever afford.....I'd have paid anything to know she was safe with me!! Both physically and mentally!! There were some very rough years fiscally and emotionally. I'd not trade one minute, because  I am the true winner!!! I have the most amazing family!! A son-in-law and daughter who treat me like gold..... truly makes me cry with joy knowing how fortunate I am!!!

Knowing that my foot is still healing the kids did all the cleaning and cooking for a friends Birthday celebration on the weekend. They served, and cleared up after us! I can't thank them enough! When I attempt to share my gratitude they both say, "we're a team, we ALL do things for each other....that's who we are!!" There is no monetary value on that kind of love either!!!
What makes you feel truly blessed in your life?
Tell me one thing that fills your heart with complete joy!

Hi Giggles. Love your art. There is always something interesting and somber as well in your work. Well as far as what fills my heart with complete joy, I don't know. It could be a number of things. I just settle for the ordinary, I'm an old school gal and just live day to day and am thankful for all that has been given to me and actually all is fine. I feel somber today. I think I'll go eat some licorice.:)) Take care.

omg girl... YOU are the wise woman (and the one with a huge heart, obviously). First of all, your artwork lately is fabulous! i just love the woman with the mosaic hair and those little creatures with the eyelashes!! omg... cracked me up. Secondly, i'm not one bit surprised that your daughter loves you so. You've obviously been a good, good mother. Your stories and the way you always reach out to those in need are a huge reason why i keep coming back here for regular visits. I don't always have time to comment, but please know that i'm here, laughing (and crying) along with you. :-) xox

Love your symbolic painting. I too was a single mom and raised my girls without even the small amount you had, because of a deadbeat dad. But I think it makes us moms even stronger, makes us love and cherish our kids even more, makes us fight harder. And makes our kids loves us unconditionally. THAT love is the one thing that fills my heart with joy. xoxo

Your posts always give me pleasure and enjoyment and yet at the same time there is always something that tugs at my heart strings - and insights into life. It takes a lot of feeling to write like that. Your life story shows what a strong person you are and your determination to overcome the odds, and you are more than rewarded with your lovely family.
Love your quirky mother and child picture, and as usual all the colour changes. I'll have to look up Photobucket and see if there is a version for Mac, as I'm always blown away by your colours.
One thing that fills my heart with complete joy? Above all other love, the love of my sweetheart and soul-mate who is everything to me, and the fact that our love grows stronger every day even after 55 years.

I love your quirky paintings. They always make me smile. You are a master of color manipulation...something I've yet to try!

I raised my two kids on my own, too. It was often a struggle but I wouldn't change it because we have the most amazing relationship because of it.

What a wonderful sketch, and I love how you play with the colours. Thank you for sharing your beautiful story. There are things in life which are priceless, big ones, and very small ones too. I try to remind me every day that it's those things that count most, and to keep my eyes open for little things that make me happy.

Hihi, love your crazy mother and child. So wonderful to read about your relationship with your daughter. That's truly something to cherish. I hope my relationship with my kids will be like that when they're adults. I feel blessed to have a wonderful partner who loves our kids every bit as much as I love them, and who I'm sure will always be there for them even if we wouldn't stay together. That gives me peace of mind...

Your painting is beautiful and even more powerful after reading your journey. I don't know how you did it, but you must be an incredibly strong woman.

When I read your post I thought of Helen Reddy singing, I am Woman, hear me roar! What a strong woman you are, Giggles! I applaud you for making it. Like the woman described in the last chapter of Proverbs, your child has risen up and called you blessed. You are a fortunate person to have your daughter and son in law active in your life. And also, I think your quirky paintings are just what some of us need on these cold, dreary days. Hope your foot continues to heal - and soon.

I love these - they remind me a lot of the native american art that comes out of the Pacific Northwest! I really DO want to know, actually, how you did manage to live on such little income. My fixed income is $794 a month and it is really not enough for much only 1/2 of what needs to be there so am always you know hustling up stuff and curious and conscious about $$ issues.

Love that you are sharing your story and the mother fish is so protecting her baby fish. I love it's stages of growth and colors.
I am blessed too. I have a wonderful loving family. I haven't needed them to take care of me yet, but I'm sure if I did they'd be here for me. I am blessed to be alive and well! ;-)

Loved your post. It is so true that there are things in life for which we are truely blessed. Even though it seemed so tough and bumpy through those years of raising your daughter - at the time it might not have seemed like a blessing - yet it was and it is now.

I adore your quirky art!! It always brings a smile to my face. And despite what obstacles you've had to overcome you have come out of them with the wisdom of seeing them as blessings in disguise. i feel your joy and gratitude. And my greatest joy is my son.

Quirky = happy - at least in my world. There is NO amount of money that could ever be enough to raise a child - only because we want to give them the world. I am sure that the gifts that you left her will TOTALLY outweigh the selfish lack of support you received. Great Artwork :)

Of course they jumped in and helped out because you are obviously a team... it shines through in every post you write... it is one of the joys of visiting with you .... and it is just as well that you have positives because what makes you think it is a good idea to encourage Sinus to play scrabble... he harassed Phantom and I for an hour after reading your comment...

It's got to be my kids who fill me with complete joy, even though they're now on their own and grown. When I first looked at your piece, I thought they were fish -- I love the vibrant primal joy and connection it expresses.

It amazes me, how women cope with the situation of raising their children on their own. It is not very easy, when you are two to share, what there is to it, but being alone? My mother did it. And she had, at the time she was alone, 5 children from 9-17 years.
It is wonderful to hear that you have a loving and caring family/daughter.
My greatest joy is to feel the love of my children. I feel thankful.

I also brought up my first son on next to nothing- and he adores me and appreciates everything I did for him. Love is what it's all about- the money does stretch somehow. Love the art. Happy PPF.

My kids give me joy as well! I work in child support so i could relate to what you wrote about! It's too bad you didn't get more but it seems many women, ( and many dads who raise their kids) also don't get what they should, it's hard to remedy that.

Love your post! My mom had similar issues...I think my day paid $500 for all 3 kids and my mom worked hard all the time, sometimes even extra work on the weekends. Not sure how she did it but she is my hero and I'm sure your daughter feels the same for you. :)

Wow your art is so fun to look at. My imagination saw a likeness to ears of corn in human form. Im weird like that...I see what I see and Im happy to see many different things than others can imagine. What a nice story of being a team and loving one another helping each other in times of need. My greatest joys have all been my four sons and all their ups and downs and back ups. Im an optimist at my core so life is always full of hopes and dreams...if some of them come true Im so happy
