Pink Trees SOC

Paint Party Friday and Summer of Color week two, orange and Hot pink!
I'm Happy to say I am all caught up on my Icads/ Index Card Shoe Series!
Although at times it can seem daunting to find the right words!
I hope you enjoy this rather long post!

On many occasions, unplanned, my friend, whose birthday is eight days after mine,  would be wearing the same color as me! One time we unknowingly bought the exact same shoes for a staff Christmas party.  So  I whipped up a couple of  bows to match my dress and  attached them to my shoes. No one was the wiser, and my friend and I still giggle about it 28 years later!
When my daughter was eight I bought her  purple doc martins, it was ridiculously extravagant. But we all enjoyed her wearing those treasures! One of the moms at the school asked if I was an artist because of the way my daughter dressed. I laughed an emphatic "NO"   ten years later I picked up my first paintbrush!

My  dad only ever  wore black florsheim Imperial Oxfords when he dressed up. Once  they wore out he replaced them with the exact same style,  which he wore until he  died. Can you say boring!
For several years when I was a teen I wore mens leather sandals that crisscrossed a  certain way at the ankle. Wearing them with  bare feet, rain or shine from the beginning of spring right until it snowed.

I wore flip flops all summer long when I was a little girl.
I constantly stubbed  my toes!
One time my mom bought shoes for herself but told the cashier they were for me. Frightened she may make me wear them  I yelled out "those aren't for me,". Mom   kicked my leg as a terse warning to shut up. Instead I yelled out "Why did you kick me?" The shoes were cheaper if you were under fourteen, and I was a big girl with a little mom!
At ten my mom bought me a pair of really sturdy ugly shoes that refused to wear out no matter how much I abused them by jumping in puddles, scuffing my feet, and bending them in half!  All the kids got new shoes at the six month point. I was so disappointed that mine lasted the whole school year!

When I was eight I had a pair of patent leather shoes.  My friend had saddle shoes, we wanted to be the same so we traded  one shoe. As soon as I left the house I'd be wearing one saddle shoe and one patent leather!
At eleven I got my first pair of pointed shoes. I was so excited, they were one of my favorite pairs of shoes ever! When I proudly showed my dad, he said I looked like a duck!
When Cupcake was little I once dove to the bottom of a bin digging to find the match for the perfect little lime green jellies. This week, Twenty three years later a trendy young woman just bought the very same shoes in black!
I have never liked white runners. As a proud twenty four year old I bought a pair of fancy netted pink canvas shoes so I could pitch on a company baseball team. I was embarassed when a young man I admired from afar noticed my inappropriate shoes the moment I hit the field. They were filthy by the end of the game. I tried to wash them  and they shrunk!
Cupcake had the only pair of size twelve  red Fluvogs  shoes shipped across Canada as a wedding gift for Beardo. They both wore red shoes when they said their vows!  He reveres those  red shoes and only wears them for special occasions!
Have my shoe stories sparked any of your own?
Please share!

I love your orange and pink trees, a lovely way to illustrate trees.
It may be a long post, but every word and picture is interesting. My favourite quote on your paintings is 'If you want to go right, go left'. The link of quote and picture is great on each one. Thanks for an enjoyable post. XXX

Who'd know that there are so many different shoes to draw.... Love the quotes that go with them and your little shoe stories. The only story that comes to my mind is a pair of flipflops that I wore every single day when I was travelling around Australia. Until they were completely misformed and I started touching the ground on one side. Still, I had trouble throwing them away, so I took a picture of them laying next to my backpack. I still have that picture today ...

Isn't it funny how we have so many memories tied up in shoes! Loved sharing your memories, brought many of my own to mind. Especially the one of your daughters Doc Martins!

All these shoes are awesome! The quotes suit each one also. I have a pair of red shoes with rally high heels that I have been unable to wear for years. I cant bear to throw them out or give away as they remind me of my misspent youth!!!

Fun shoe cards, and enjoyed the little stories! Happy PPF! xo L.

I love those shoes and the fantastic stories that go with them. I was never a shoe person (yes I'm an embarrassment to womanhood) but I did love the really high platform shoes of the 70's. Had me some really cool pairs of those and I always wore killer high heels when I worked, I'm only 5 foot tall!

Now it is my turn. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this series. The quotes were great and went so well with each story. This would be a wonderful book. It was so much fun to read.

I love the one about the mother asking you if you were an artist. Isn't it funny how sometimes people can see in us what we don't yet see in ourselves?

Thank you for your kind comment on my painting today.

Wow, Sherrie, you have been busy doing gorgeous shoes this week. I enjoy seeing unusual shoes on other people, but I'm afraid I'm more like your father in the choice of my own shoes. Great post.

I love your shoe stories and all the wonderful quirky shoe illustrations to go with them! the only show story I can think of is when I turned vegan I gave nearly all my leather shoes away to either my sister or charity shops. I kept a couple of pairs of boots because I couldn't afford to replace them all and had read a few vegan websites saying it was okay to wear something til it was worn out as long as you replace it with non-leather shoes. I found a great website stocking vegetarian shoes and they even do a veggie version of Ugg boots which I had loved (and which my sister was delighted to receive when I realised I couldn't wear them anymore!) She kindly got me the veggie uggs (vuggs?!) in brown and black instead!

Your shoe paintings are wonderful and I love the stories.

I loved the shoe stories - they all made me smile - Beardo just needs to wear the fluvogs - they don't do any good just sitting in the closet :)

Love your fabulous collection of shoes and quotes on your ICADS!! I don't know how you remember so many of your shoe tales... thanks for the fun read!

Wow! what a post! You've a wonderful memory. I can't remember much about my shoes. In school I wanted open shoes but my Dad insisted on buying only the buckled ones. I hated it because everyone in school thought the open ones were cool.
Love your shoe sketches and the first ICAD drawing is also bright and cheerful.

I have thoroughly LOVED every one of your shoes (and every story connected to every shoe). Being on a tight budget, I cannot often indulge in the fun shoes I might like, but rather have to stick to the practical that will go with anything on any occasion, BUT I do have this one pair of orange shoes... and they are my favorites!:-)

Wow what a display of shoes, a fantastic collection! All are such fun and full of character and style! I'm loving all the little shoes I get to buy my 2 year old girl but what really cracks me is when she comes through wearing her brothers shoes, they are 11 and 13 years old, so you can imagine their big shoes on her!

Love your SOC piece...and a girl can never have too many shoes! HPPF!

I always smile when I come here - great collection of shoes. When you mentioned saddle shoes, my dad always insisted my mom buy them for me and I hated them. At one point in the 4th or 5th grade - I hid them way under my bed and said I lost them. They were on to me right away! HPPF

I love that Beardo only wears his wedding shoes on special occasions and Phoebes would love purple docs... she would have them glued to her feet I think... we are actually off shoe shopping for her in a day or so... and she hates it so she needs to warm up... no clue why she hates it she just does... I will dose her with tea before we venture out and she will be fine...xx

I actually came to see your SOC entry, but remembered your shoes from last week, and got immersed in the stories you told, including trading one patent leather shoe. Too funny. You have a world of shoe stories and some pretty awesome shoe paintings. And many of them are the same as the SOC colors. Love that!!

enjoyed your shoe stories. such sweet memories of them. Love the collection you had. Colorful even. We aren't fan of shoes and I prefer to wear the simple flat ones for comfort. At home I wear flip flops :)

This was so awesome, all these shoes and quotes, WOW!! LOVE LOVE all this together, great drawings and stories!! I'm a huge storyteller and these were sweet memories to tell. This was well worth the long read, brought back my shoe memories too.

I wore white/blue Nike tennis shoes most of my teen years, even slept in them at times. I loved them. One day in my early 20's I bought my first all white Reebok pair of tennis. Wore them for year. Finally discovered COLOR and that it's ok to love more then one color. Now I like to buy my shoes all colorful and fun/pretty!!
Thanks so much for sharing!!

I love the quotes you have used with your great cards.... your stories are funny!

A friend and I once had the same pair of shoes in different colours.... and we went out one night and wore one of each.... snap! It was the 80's and I remember mine being bright orange!

Your shoe stories made me smile. While I read them my mind remembered lots of shoes from years gone by. Remember the device we stood on that ex rayed our feet to show what size we needed? And then the heavy metal thing we stood on that measured our foot? I love Higgins shoe store in Vallejo, ca the nice mr Higgins who took those measurements and pinched his thumb at the top of the shoe to make sure there was enough room for my toes!

My latest pair of shoes is an overly priced pair of Converse high top tennis shoes that look like someone zen tangle painted them in bright colors. Just what any 72 year old woman should be proud to be seen wearing!

HPPF dear friend! I love your blog posts and pretty painted shoes!

I love your shoe stories. When I was little plastic clogs were trendy for a while. They came in blue or pink, I liked I where one of each. I used to work for a shoe company and would travel to China to visit factories. I was sample size so I had LOTS of shoes. That was a fun job.

Oh, I love your shoes and your stories! :-)))
Quite a few shoes come to my mind, one winter two of my siblings and I had fights in the morning before school, because each of us wanted the best wellies for gliding on the ice in the schoolyard :D

Sending big hugs from Germany :-)

What wonderful shoe stories! I love the quotes you've chosen and I especially like the shoes with bows... For a while I boycotted shoes, but I've since softened on that position and love my shoes!

Love your Shoe-Cad's ha ha, in this post and this weeks too. Red tie shoes in Catholic School....I hated wearing the uniform but I loved my red leather tie shoes...they were so comfortable. I hated the black patent leather ones I had to wear to church and the itchy lace topped ankle sox that went with them.....they always pinched my toes......xox
